We're getting personal on this blog again... It's natural for some daily life details and general feelings to slip out but in general, I do want my blog to be a place to get dressed and talk smack. So simple, right? But it isn't always so simple.
Yes, last week sucked but if we're going to be honest (as one should always be, unless a friend asks 'is she prettier than me?') this whole spring has been really overwhelming and crazy for a plethora of reasons. I hate that I haven't had as much time to blog or even to enjoy blogging. It's made me start pondering the same question that has been bothering philosophers for centuries... why am I fashion blogging? It is so much work and energy and I'm not raking in pennies, products or perks... People I haven't seen in AGES can google me and find this... me in all my superficial glory. Why do I do this?
And then this morning I reached in the closet for my blue plaid shirt and the meaning of life came to me... ok, maybe not the meaning of life. But it did give me some clarity on why I love style blogging. If I wasn't wasting our mutual time (you by reading, me by posing and writing) with MyEdit, I would probably just be watching more reality tv to escape the pressures of life. AND I would be wearing this plaid shirt with jeans, sometimes skinny jeans, sometimes distressed jeans, sometimes with heels and sometimes with a nice pair of sandals but I would never have worn it like this, or this, or this, or this, or this, or this...

You're not wasting my time, you are enriching and inspiring (and amusing) me. It's true that this much-loved (by me) shirt does hold the key to the meaning of life . .

The photos are gorgeous and happy and energy-filled! Love your work.

I couldn't agree more. Fashion blogging encourages creative dressing, something I always did before I had kids. But, sadly, over the years, my style devolved into the predictable dumps of momstyle--sweat pants and pony tails. No mas, chica.

I know just what you mean! Since I started the blog I put so much more thought into what I wear, am constantly challenging myself and occasionally get dressed just for the internet.

I love seeing what everyone else is wearing, your outfit is simply wonderful. That skirt! I adore.

Even though it's hugely superficial, it still feels more productive and worthwhile than spending 10 hours on facebook...

I just started following your blog (which I love, ps) and totally agree, the blue plaid is glorious! Keep it up girl!

What an unexpected silhouette. But it works so well! As do all of your outfits. I truly hope that blogging stops being a stress for you. I really enjoy reading and seeing what you put together.

I love the contrast of feminine with menswear...and how you added the jacket that gives it an "edge".

Sometimes I wonder those things as well...but then I sift through my reader and come across posts like this and am reminded once again why I love blogging.

I am so glad that you're still blogging! I'm really sorry that this spring has been rough on you. I hope more relaxing days are right around the bend!

I love the white skirt with your plaid shirt! Your legs are super gorgeous.

Very cute!!!!

I was actually thinking the same thing about blogging yesterday... maybe we are just getting a little tired of it?

Ok so this might add to your stress, but joining a fashion community like chictopia or weardrobe might help you spread the word and get well-deserved recognition.

I have to say.. I think that today's combination with the extremely cute white skirt, the belt, the jacket, and shoes is my FAVORITE outfit that has the blue plaid shirt. Totally awesome outfit, this is. Thank you for continuing to fashion blog. I love to come to your site everyday and I look forward to seeing what you are wearing. Welcome back. :-)

I love this look. As usual, you inspire. So glad you're still blogging, though I understand your hesitations - they are mine from time to time as well. And you've had a heck of a few months! Hopefully your summer is all fun and sunshine and ruffled skirts!

Ah, the pitfalls of blogging. Daily I ask myself why I don't stop. Sometimes I really think I will. But then....well, you said it best. It pushes me, sometimes, in both good and bad ways but mostly in good ones, and I also rather like all the lovely ladies I've "met" and honestly...oh, you're right. Otherwise I'd just be on my ass.

Plus, it's given my man the cchance to discover his artistic side, which is worth all of this, by itself...

And don't forget- your blog inspires others, too! I love seeing how you pair things and how much fun it looks like you're having in your photos. So, even on the tough days (weeks, months!), know that it's exciting to read your blog and see what new thing you've thought of...and, of course, what smack you're talking. ;)

One of my favorite outfits by far. We blog because it's fun. When it is no longer fun, we can stop blogging and take up karate.

i love your blog, your writing, your sense of humor, and your style! don't do it if it's not fun, but never feel like you don't have any fans!

I REALLY love this post. I have felt that way so many times and have almost deleted my blog countless times as well. Battling with thoughts of me being self-involved or a show-off, as well as insecurity of 'oh, I'm not really all that stylish...' - it's one thing to feel stylish in your town, but the internet is a different story! Anyway, point being, I love your blog & I'm glad you're doing it, and I absolutely agree... blogging makes me think twice about wearing the same cardigan 3 days in the same week...!

Don't second guess the value of your blog. You have inspirational style (even for an older reader like me), you write with great wit and honesty, and I always look forward to checking out your latest post. Clearly you have a real life, too, as we all do, but style and clothes are a fun, creative part of that life. Kudos.

Also, this outfit? Fabulous!

Products, pennies and perks are yours for the asking Jentine - you've got more than respectable traffic and an incredibly supportive community here - your blog makes mine look pretty small time! - any PR I know would be thrilled to know about you and work with you. Let me know what you want to do and I'll make sure the right people know about your site. Email me.

oh man, to think of all of the inspiration I would have missed had it not been for your blog! in fact you've inspired me to play more with plaid... and not just pair it with jeans and different accessories. you rock, jentine... your style, your humor, your writing, your wedding dress making, your badass landscaping... the list goes on.

in other news this outfit is spectacular, and I love the background with the silhouettes of the sports players :) that last shot is AWESOMENESS and I could totally see it as a MyEdit header in the future!

Ah, you've perfectly summed up the way I feel about blogging. So many days I realize just how sartorially lazy I'd be without BLD, and how I'd just be indulging in other superficial, less fun hobbies. Watching "Tila Tequila" is NOT a worthwhile use of my day. And I am seriously grateful for the inspiration I've gotten from your blog, and your general presence on the interwebs.

Blogging is tough, and sometimes seems like a huge waste of time, but I think you're right--it's the act of expressing yourself that's important, and if we weren't blogging, it's not like we'd be out saving babies from burning buildings or something (well, maybe you, but probably not me).

What I really wanted to say though, is that I love the dichotomy of rocker chic and grunge casual here. Perfect!

I love the outfit and the combination, you look awesome (as usual)..

We're on the same page in terms of blogging, although sometimes I get super full of resentment that my blog isn't popular and I'm dressing for it and cooking for it like it's a boyfriend or best friend or something. It's just a blog, but I totally love doing it and I'm so glad you're still blogging!!

Great post. You're a huge inspiration to me and I love your quirky, individual style. Sometimes you don't realise the influence you have on other people and sometimes I save your posts and don't tell you how much I love them. Keep up the blogging and I'll certainly keep visiting (even when I've been away in France).
