Cats and Threads

red2red7red3

Vest? Thrifted Shirt? Gap Cords? Joe Fresh Shoes? Derek Lam, Holt's Last Call Necklaces? Cuba and garage sales Purse? Thrifted

Here's a slightly gross story for you. I was holding (possibly physically restraining?) Kyle, the cat and he startled from a noise and put little holes in my cords as he jumped off my lap with his claws extended. I'm just going to keep wearing the cords until the holes shred open because I paid an extra $8 to get the legs fitted. What's gross isn't that Kyle almost wasted the cost of tailoring, but that I pulled an inch long red thread from these cords out of my knee a few weeks later.

Kyle's lucky I believe in commitment to pets and I allowed him to stay in the house. My co-worker is not so lucky I believe in such commitment. A simple conversation this morning at work turned into me ranting wildly at her across the job site about responsible pet ownership. It had nothing to do with her; I just get so passionate about the subject that my voice raises an octave and my arms flail wildly. She stayed out of arm range and kept her ear plugs nearby. They give us ear plugs at work to protect against the roar of machinery but it turns out, they muffle my rants pretty well too...

I love both your model poses/faces [tyra should have you on to teach those toothpicks how to shmize] AND your cat lady morals. I can haz them too which is why mo isn't either a: wearing a diaper, or gotten her lady pits sewed up. And I'm not shaving them.. even though I fantasize about it.

ps.. come to fricking [your mom reads this right?] chicago already.

Love the sequin sleeves on your shirt. I can relate to being passionate about pet ownership - I've got a dog, and I spend so many hours training him, even after 2.5 years after rescuing him. Those claws can be dangerous - on cats and dogs!

First, love this outfit. Adding deep red cords to my must-have list for fall. Thanks for contributing to that obscenely long list.

Second, I hear you on the responsible pet ownership thing. I was at the humane society over the weekend because my mom is thinking about adopting a pup and while everyone was melting over the tiny puppies and kittens, I was so depressed by the older dogs and cats that had been given up, I just wanted to take all of them home! I'm not sure how you can have an animal for so many years and then just give them away to the pound (I'm sure there are extenuating circumstances for some, but still).

Anyway. End of rant. Love your outfit. Love that you care about animals. Love that your cat's name is Kyle. Love.

Love the whole outfit, especially the cords. You are contributing to my hankering for red pants.

And people who get rid of their pets because they're no longer convenient are THE WORST PEOPLE. My cat is a former teenage mother who we got as a rescue and has terrible litter box habits (as in, no matter what, she would prefer to use the floor), but I would never in a million years get rid of her. I adopted her, and now she's my problem (though she does have some redeeming qualities).

Hmm, look who's ranting now.

Well claws are no fun, I hear you there. You do look fabulous with your layering, sequins are always welcome and I've been thinking I need red pants lately so I'm definitely appreciating yours!

that story is grotesquely impressive :) although that red thread was probably a bigger surprise, i love the surprising details of your sequined cap sleeves... FLASHY!

Fab photos.

Such a shame about your trousers, it always happened to the things you like.

Fray Check can be your friend, or some sort of cool patch. In our house we refer to such garments as "loved by" the cat.

These burgundy pants are fab! How does a thread end up in ones knee? So gross! Good thing it's out now, though ^^ x

People giving up pets really upsets me too. I hate when a newly married couple gets a dog, keeps it for a few years, has a baby, and then they don't have time for the dog anymore so they give it away.

Dude(tte), I've gotten into arguments with people about pet ownership. They get pets just because they want one, without knowing all that they entail. Someone chucked their dog because their kid was hitting them and the dog growled. I'm sorry, but if you have not educated your child and your dog properly enough, then it's also your fault. Besides food and water, they need love and attention! They just don't get it...if it were up to me, I'd rescue every dog I come across (and try to find homes for the kitties), but that's how we ended up with 3 at my parents and 1 with Damian and me.

My dogs have pooped on my (old computer), peed on my bed, eaten hats and important papers, scratched my face, among other things, but with love, dedication, and respect, we've managed to keep it going. Chucking an animal is not the answer! Education, both for the human and the pet, is key.

Ogh Kyle! Bad kitty!
I'm with you though! A commitment to an animal means a lifetime of care, NO MATTER WHAT. Which is why I won't go out and find me a kitty, even though I desperately want one. I just can't take the time it would deserve and I don't have the resources to care for it the way one ought to. So for now I'll just steal kisses from the neighbor cats. (:

LOVE the red cords & the hint of sequins. I've been known to go on rants about how some people treat animals. It's so frustrating!

fewer things get me more worked up than the topic of pet ownership. my blood boils when i see people neglecting or not caring properly (or at all) for their animals. GRRRRR.

The pants look amazing, and I love those shoes!

I hear you about responsible pet ownership. I have a hard time keeping my emotions in check when it comes to animal welfare - happy you let her have it!

That sucks about the cords :( Glad you will still get some wear out of them. And I love the sequin peek-a-boo detailing on the sleeves!

Oh I feel you, I get the same way talking about MasterChef. Yeah I don't have pets (although my bff's name is Kyle so we could swap gross stories) or any sense of responsibility, but I know what it's like to make people want ear plugs. IT'S JUST AN INCREDIBLY WELL-PRODUCED SHOW, ALRIGHT.

Pretty photos. I really like those cords (and the little cat claw holes are perfectly fine, can't even tell!) The sequined sleeves are such a fun touch too.

Such a cute outfit. I'm a sucker for sequins, so I adore your top. The random blue necklace is a nice compliment to the whole thing. Shoes, of course, amazing. :)
I too am crazy about responsible pet ownership. They're like children. They didn't ask to be under your care, but they are so you need to take the best care of them possible. (Also, I spoil my two cats rotten to the point to where I'm convinced they think they ARE my actual children, lol). If an animal is abused and I see it, I won't hesitate to report it. nice to know I'm not the only one who gets crazy about such things. :)

Haha love that your cat's name is Kyle... it just seems so un-cat, which makes this entire story even funnier! He might have ended up doing you a favour, people pay big bucks for the distressed look!
Love the pop of sequins, such a great chic/eclectic look! xx
