I can be such a little snot about hating on synthetic fabrics... It seems I have to tone the hatoration down a bit because I pretty much lived in this cheap rayon dress all last week. I wore work clothes, a dress for my dad's birthday but I spent every other moment in this dress. I wore it when I went shopping with a friend to find her bridesmaids shoes. I wore it running errands to Ottawa Street (where all the fabric stores are). I wore it again to Ottawa Street a few days later when I screwed up and ran out of fusing and the exact same lady helped me again. I wore it working in the loft (unaffectionately known as The Sweatshop because it really is that hot) on the dresses that have deadlines looming close. I wore it working on dresses again, only this time we caved and bought an AC for the loft because my sanity was at stake . And finally, after a crazy work week I wore it for a Saturday night out on an Augusta Street patio. Threw a knot in the hem, put on heels and I went from a stressed little dressmaker/landscaper to party ready in two minutes.
The dress is cute, doesn't wrinkle, doesn't show panty lines (maybe TMI? but not really. Let's be honest, when it's hot outside, modesty is the first thing to go...) and I would probably be wearing it now, if I hadn't finally put it in the wash. It had to be washed because there was a wee accident on the patio involving sangria and a wobbly table. I was literally soaked from waist to hem (ha... I guess that's not that much) in sangria and I had all the fruit from my cup all over my lap. Nicely done... But the dress is red so it didn't stain and within an hour it was dry again. These are words I never thought I would type, but it seems that my rayon dress saved the day.

You are so purty you make my eyeballs ache.

I can be such a hater of crappy fabrics too...funny coming from someone who prefers to pay next to nothing for her things...

Millie and I used to spend our vacation days going to Ottawa Street! I would live there, if only I could find a shop owner to let me sleep in the back. Velvet and silk would make a comfy bed, no?

And amen to being a fabric snob - The Rocket Scientist is tired of hearing me complain about how polyester can't be a good fabric choice for soccer jerseys. But I have a little more love for rayon than others since it is made from recycled cellulose fiber.

P.S. You must now play this song (sorry) whenever you wear rayon. And get a big hat like the one at 0:27.

Well thank goodness Rayon isn't completely synthetic...since it's actually made from Tree Cellulose..

I am the same. If it's not cotton or something breathable I don't want to know about it. I mean I live in Queensland, I don't know why they sell anything other than cotton and linen in the stores. Something to do with fashion I guess...

BUT, I just bought a gorgeous "vintage" 90's dress that is definitely not cotton. I fell in love with yellow and beige and forgot my lofty material standards.

Also, I love the little knot in the front. Such a perfect touch.

Love the knot. Rayon is actually partly natural, right? So...maybe that makes it a little better?

I never would have thought about putting in that knot, but I love it!

I'm definitely loving your cheap rayon dress. It looks super chic with minimal accessories... and what girl doesn't look a nice no frills simple look to throw on?

I'm a hater on synthetic fabrics too, but you're right - sometimes they really look fabulous on days you just want to give up because of the heat. I love how you styled it and the knot thing is something I'm going to have to try this summer.

You really are working that color wheel with the dress/green shed!

Gorgeous, gorgeous dress. I love when it works out that the prettiest dresses are also the most comfortable and functional to wear!

Such a fun, summery frock - no wonder it got constant love last week.

And I ADORE synthetics. There, I said it. I love a material that is washable AND wrinkle-free.

Really great look, I love all the summery dresses that have come out lately! They are so pretty.

All that matters is that it keeps you cool during this heat wave of a summer. I love that bag!

Haha. This post is perfect timing. I was eying a shirt online the other day and Lar said, "Gross it's rayon" and then I said, "But I'll never have to iron it!" Now I'm convinced I should buy it.

I love how you knotted the skirt - very Little Edie!

It saved the day, for sure! You look awesome- super casual but in a very together way. Love the little tie at the bottom. The belt and shoes were a great choice, too.

It's a great dress on you! I tend to do that sometimes when it's really hot too - I find one comfy thing and then wear it like 4 times in a week because it's so easy and doesn't make me want to die of heat exhaustion.

I love how you knotted this dress - it's so 90's cool!

Ha, I'm glad to hear other fabric snobs make inexplicable exceptions for rayon! I always feel like I'm passing up great stuff while thrifting, but I just can't stand some janky feeling textile - and yet, somehow rayon is permissible...

This is a great look, and the knot in the hem definitely takes it to the next level!
