Lace dress? h&m, old...
Jacket? Old Navy...$13!
Booties? Maxstudio, Winners
Cashmere gloves? gifted from
Linda
Hard plastic purse? thrifted vintage goodness...

Hard to believe but many, many years ago I was a hardcore tomboy. In fact, I remember a sweet Dutch lady who sent a care package to us, the Dutch family living in Korea (my father was there on a ten year contract), that included something special for the kids. I received a doll but I hated it and I was completely jealous of my brothers, who received pencils and pencil cases with awesome English words on them... like 'college'. I did not play with that doll for a good two years.
And how times change....now I'm all over hair styling, make-up and shopping. I'm sure my mom looks at me and wonders what happened. If it wasn't for the fact that both of us burst into tears over sad animal stories, I'd wonder too about how I came to be the daughter of such a practical woman.

In this outfit I felt fantastic. I've been in a bit of a January slump (blah, blah, blah, who hasn't?) but I banished the blues when I put this on. It's taken three years but I finally took in this dress. It was originally an awkward tent shape on me but when I belted it, the dress would hike up and this dress really shouldn't be any shorter... So, I took it in; I even released the lace hem and hand sewed it back up. I might as well do it right...

The hard shell purse is a recent thrift find. Judging by the interior it's an oldie... It's the perfect size for some Bath and Body Works lipglosses (yes, another addiction) and some candy. It makes me nervous to use this purse because it's in excellent condition and I'm terrified I'll drop and shatter it or scratch it... and then I would cry and my feelings of outfit fantasticness would be crushed. But it needed to be shown off, so I was extra careful and stayed away from icy patches and any juice spills on gym floors.

Your posts always make me laugh. I would have NEVER guessed that you were a tomboy growing up. You are just so good at being a girl now :) Love this outfit - especially the coat. It's so chic paired with the gloves!

1) I, on the other hand, can see how you might've been a tomboy, but that ROCKS. Tough chicks = chicks I love. See Miranda Lambert.

2) You always look SO classy. You and District of Chic. Man, jealous. I think it's partly being blond and statuesque, but still. I'm about to have a fit over that little camel-colored number you've got going on here. Paired with tiny hardshell purse, it literally looks like it cost a million bucks. Awesome! I love your blog.

Oh, I love that coat! And you styled it perfectly, of course. I giggled when you said you and your mom cry over sad animal stories. One time my goldfish was dying from that ick disease and we just sat and bawled as he struggled to stay alive! Hahah!

I just adore that lacy dress. Winter whites are my favorite! I love your tomboy anecdote, too. I was never much of a tomboy growing up, but I think I'm more of a tomman (doesn't really work when you scale it up to adults, does it?) now than I was then. Though I do love shoes... :)

I absolutely love this outfit. In love with the purse and the jacket!

Ah! I was a HUGE tomboy too! True story: after the third grade I did not wear a dress until my eight grade graduation!

I LOVE that lace dress...I just bought a very similar lace top today! I can't believe that it is old!

Umm I'm pretty sure this outfit couldn't be more awesome!! I love that you tied the gloves in with the tights and shoes... and that jacket $13?!?! Seriously??!? Love it!! This whole look is fabulous!! Oh and p.s. I know F21 can be super overwhelming sometimes... however, in Lancaster, it's a fairly new store so it's a bit more structured than some other ones I've been in. I kinda feel that overwhelmed sense when I go into H&M though... But I think this dress is gorgeous! Ok, enough of my rambling.... fab fab fab! :)

Lace I like

I thought the Boss (I call ‘em that ‘cause he’s got the charge card, wheels, tells me when to get out of his chair, and mangles Springsteen in the shower) said he was takin’ me to the day spa yesterday. Turned out I went to the vet instead and had to wait all day in a cage to be seen by some cold-fingered, SOB stickin’ all sorts of things in me in various places. Sort of pissed me off at the Boss until he gave me a couple of licks of ice cream cone when he picked me up. All is forgiven.

This outfit is slammin’. Jacket complements the hair tones, the lace is always feminine and shoes are the shit. I’d like to see the dress taper a bit to the thighs, but you can’t have your comfort cake and eat it, too. That stuff in the boatyard, ho hum, not so much.

Any way, me and the Boss are keepin’ it cool. Chio!
