Outer Layer

cold5

There is a certain mysterious allure of wearing a big winter coat. With so much coverage, no one can really tell what you are or aren't wearing underneath. For all anyone knows, I could just be wearing my sparkly tights and a Soulja Boy concert tee (Soulja Boy, really? That's the best I could come up with?)...

But I'm not, thanks for checking. I'm fully dressed and pretty proud of the fact that I managed to tuck a full-on lumber-jack shirt into this skirt...

Shirt? Jacob, thrifted
Skirt? Joe Fresh
Belt? Roots, thrifted
Tights? Old Navy
Boots? Kenneth Cole, Winners
Purse? Tignanello, thrifted
Jacket? hand-me down!

This is one of my big-gun winter jackets. It's warm. I've talked about it before but I sometimes have a hard time spending a lot of money on things I need. If I want something, I'll get lost in the moment and buy it but if I need something, I do everything possible to delay a big purchase in order to keep spending on my wants. I realize that is poor judgement... Thankfully, I have a wonderful friend who upgraded to a similar jacket, but with a hood, and gave this functional beauty to me as a hand-me-down. Love her!
I never really had a lot of hand-me-downs, which is surprising, considering I am the 4th child in a large Dutch family. I only have brothers, so while I did get a lot of my clothes second hand, I didn't have to join the 'wear out the sweater until you can see your elbows' line-up. Oh ya... I did get hand-me-down sturdy leather shoes. I'm sure they were sensible and good quality and all, but I just wanted a pair of those patent Sunday shoes with bows on them that all my friends had. Maybe all my shoe buying these days is a direct consequence of years of Dutch clodhopper wearing...?

Love the plaid shirt with that skirt and the boots are the bomb. I didn't get hand me down shoes and I still have a great passion for them that defies all reason, so maybe it's just in our DNA period. Happy Monday~

I'm still not over what you called me that one time I wore running shoes and my warm coat...rude!
btw Tignaneno is the same name as that turquoise bag I bought and used as a school bag...still love it.

Love everything about this, especially the coat and the plaid shirt paired with a dressy skirt.
Sorry for the late response on this but yes, my black NYE dress does have very deep pockets -- super fun and practical! - JoAnn, Sidewalk Chalk

I like the coat! I need more nice coats. I only have a couple that I wear. I am so picky when it comes to jackets though... Great outfit UNDER the coat too by the way!

It's so true...in such a large coat you could be wearing anything, but I love the outfit you've selected. Wearing a thick winter coat is like opening an unexpected present that is pleasantly surprising.

I love those sparkly tights! They're not over the top but have enough umph to make them stand out. I also know how you feel about coats...I have the same type aversion to pajamas.

ohhh I totally know what you mean about not wanting to buy something you need! I REALLY needed a warm and high quality sweater, but I could not bring myself to spend the money on one. I came across a pretty little (thin and 3/4 sleeve) cardigan and snatched it up! Why?!?! I am so glad someone else battles with that too! :) Oh, and your boots are amazing!

Thank you so much for all of your well wishes! You are so sweet!

I blame my shopping habits on my parents too - we weren't allowed to spend frivolously growing up so now I overcompensate lol

And I love that you paired a lumberjack-ish shirt with sparkly tights! Fab!

You look great; I think I like your bag especially. Sometimes I think I do turn heads when my dress/skirt is shorter than my coat. :)
