This Week I Thrifted...

cape1

Cape? Ann Taylor, thrifted Belt? Thrifted Blouse? I.D., Winners

What? Ann Taylor cape
Where? Bibles for Misson Thrift Store
How much? $5
Why? In the last two weeks I have spent 8 minutes thrifting. It was not time wasted, as evidenced by this great little cape I found.
With Halloween around the corner, I have been avoiding the bigger thrift stores. I get that a thrift store may be a good place to find a cheap and original costume but I don't get why thrift stores get all sexy, cheap and polyester in October. I mean,I understand it, it's all about the bottom line but I can't handle the crowds and sparkly angle wings so I take my thrift elsewhere.
I love the Bibles For Mission store because it's always clean and I usually see a couple ladies from my church who volunteer there. I think they get a kick out of seeing me buy a bright pink skirt and wear it to church with a sweatshirt. However, because the store is run by volunteers, they don't stay open late. I got to the store at 4:43p.m. and the store closed at 5p.m.. By 4:51p.m. I was at the cash with this cape (brand new, heck yes!) and a charming but horribly hand-knit mustard sweater. I'd say it was a little skill and a little luck...

What did you thrift this week?

Wow... If only I had your gift. I thrifted some Ralph Lauren pajama pants. They're a bit short so I have to take out the hem and redo it to make it a wee bit longer. But it'll be sooo worth it. I also got some new long flared jeans! My other pair is getting old. Annnd a yellow cardigan. I can't wear them until I do the laundry so I'll wear them....never.

I wish you had capitalized the word "you" in that last question, just so I could feel better about bragging that I thrifted a leather skirt, after all. Thank you for your inspiration (that is all the sap I can muster, but I mean it).

What a great cape. Here in the few thrift stores we have (in Amsterdam there's lots, but here in the east, blegh)I can only find horrible polyester XL tops. Oh well. I'll thrift vicariously through you, ok? ;-)

I need to move where you live. Our thrift stores here are terrible. Great find!

Yes, Halloween makes the thrift stores uncongenial for regulars! This time of year, I blow in and blow out of my best store at oddball times (9:00 a.m. Tuesday and Friday are my favorite, since they restock the nights before) and avoid the weekends, when the teenagers come out to shop. Velma

That is gorgeous! Love the soft greyish amethyst color, it looks like it will layer well with anything. This week I thrifted a pair of vintage motorcycle boots ($10), a very vampy faux-Victorian black satin Gunne Sax cocktail dress ($12), an electric purple silk fringed skirt ($6), and a chartreuse silk Marc by Marc Jacobs tie neck blouse ($6). A little random, but not too shabby!

I'm loving that blouse! A little neck bow AND animal print AND shades of purple. So great!

I love my local Goodwill this time of year. Turns out they were stockpiling all the vintage to put out as Halloween costumes!

I agree, I am so annoyed by the "Halloween" shoppers esp. when they buy up all the vintage stuff to only wear once! Love the cape!

Love your thrifted treasure of the week. And I love the pink skirt that you linked to --- would the leopard print blouse in this post work with the skirt, or is that too matchy-matchy?

Love the cape! Which BFM did you go to? I went thrifting with Erin a couple weeks ago, and we couldn't find the BFM on the mountain. The space looked deserted...? The Hamilton Salvation Army on Upper James DID provide me with a brown leather purse with a gold alligator clasp, though!

That cape is so pretty! I love it's pasetl color and the fact that it's brand new makes it even better! I never understood hy people buy things and hang them in their closet with the pricetags still attached. Then never wear them and throw them out.... x

i love the way you've gathered in the cape with a belt (makes note to try out belts more than i do now)

this week's thrifting scored me one lovely knee-length silky knit dress in a pucci-ish print, with a lovely tied knot detail just at the bust = v flattering. also found some very pucciesque long tunics to wear with a denim mini or skinny jeans (hides the gap betwixt jeans drop waist and what isn't covering it above)

How do you find these beauties? I've been thrifting for work (I'm a marketing intern at my local theatre and have been gathering supplies for local kiddos to make model Sleeping Beauties), but the charity shops here are wall to wall tat, for nearly high street prices. I found a second-hand bridesmaid dress for £20, and then saw a brand new one for £15! How does that work???
