This Week I Thrifted...

skirt1skirt3

Skirt? Thrifted Shirt? F21 Necklaces? Thrifted and stolen from my Mama

This week I thrifted a handmade, chevron printed, pleated skirt. Say that 10 times fast! Never mind... don't waste your breathe, I can't hear you over the sound of the Spice Girls singing in the background.

Where? Talize, Hamilton
How much? $6 minus student discount and coupon so about $4.
Why? The skirt is cute and can be styled a lot of ways. Blah, blah, blah... Mostly, I just like the fact that it is homemade. Sewing in a chiffon fabric and putting in pleats is no walk in the park, unless you are walking through the park in high heels and trying to eat a shwarma at the same time; basically, it takes focus. And even though the skirt is well made and the pockets lie nice and flat, I am charmed by the fact that the sewer screwed up on the button holes and put in two button holes with no corresponding buttons... and then gave up and just added a hook and eye. I am betting that this skirt waistband has heard a lot of bad words and seen some tears. Whoever you are Mystery Sewer, I shall thoroughly enjoy this skirt... double button holes and all.

I love this post - how terrific that you've taken someone else's (probably) horrible experience and turned it into the thing you like best.

I got a couple oversized pullover sweaters since I've heard they'll be all the rage this fall, and a camp green button down.

I haven't had thrift time in weeks, but have plans to hit to shops hard this week. I already have a list of all of my fall wishes, but would also love to find something so lovely it can't be left behind.

I love this skirt! So cute! Maybe she added two button holes because it's her signature ;)

The skirt is adorable! I just found a pretty epic thrift shop that is somewhat near my place. I got 3 skirts, 1 blouse, 1 dress, 1 blaze and 1 military vest. I'm so happy! :D

Those buttonholes would be an excellent place to use a pair of cufflinks, or even a pretty button on the front of each buttonhole with a flat plain button anchoring it on the back.

That skirt is awesome! I have the worst luck thrifting skirts. Although I got a killer vintage lace dress for $3 bucks so I kept my complaining to a minimum this week

I love that outfit! I can't say I thrifted any clothing this week, but I did pick up a few pieces for my vintage luggage collection. :) I have a bit of an addiction...

I thrifted my very first silk shirt! For only $2! I'm so excited to get it back from the cleaners and wear it.

Loving the chevron printed pleated skirt, I only said it once and that was enough!

haha that's awesome! It adds some charm :)

Lovely skirt, nice find. Today I thrifted a pair of beautiful vintage-looking peep toe heels that are purple and blue and just happened to fit perfectly. They may be one of my favorite finds ever, actually. I also found a beautiful, red Ferragamo bag with gold detailing. The past few times I've thrifted have been a disappointment, so I'm pretty happy!

I'm so jealous of your thrifted items. I love chevron printed anything!

I love the two button holes! I think it gives it character.

It's a beautiful skirt. You could make an interesting closure by inserting a bit of ribbon, threading it through each button hole and tying a bow. I thrifted a chevron skirt myself, though of a much cheaper make; a dress; and a silk blouse covered with handwriting that I shall have to give some loving attention to.

I like Terri's idea about the ribbon bow! Great skirt--I love black and white patterns!

Today I thrifted a lovely paisley silk tie from England for the husband, and a red and white printed batik rayon top, a rust linen 2pc pants/top set by Eileen Fisher, and 3 odd items I wouldn't've normally gotten but they were a dollar each: a burgundy Carole Little floral maxi skirt, a rayon jacket in burgundy and amber with a vaguely Southwestern pattern, and an 80s silk shirt in amber, cherry red, olive, brown and dark green--very mysterious, vaguely steampunkish pattern with spectacles, letters in Victorian script, pocket watches and other indecipherable items.

I thrifted a pair of salmon-colored J. Crew shorts. This may be the first time I have ever thrifted something that's still in style!

An Aquascutum scarf for £1 yesterday! I am thrilled I found it lurking behind a load of polyester nasties.

Great find! It looks like a wool herringbone from afar. This week, I thrifted a bright blue silk blouse and a J. Crew skirt for the fall. Total = $7. Very good trip.

I thrifted a camel-colored skirt yesterday! Also, I got a faux-leather skirt at H&M for $7, which isn't really thrifting but pretty much felt like it at that price.

Those double button holes may not be a mistake. I'm seeing it with two buttons connected by a little chain. Might be worth a shot to fancy it up a bit! :)

Marvelousa said...

You're so bold, a chevron skirt! I can't wait to see how you'll style it. I usually run away from printed bottoms due to total lack of creativity on how to style them. Or maybe, total excess of unmatching printed tops? Oh, well :)

SWF_Terra said...

Oh OH. This skirt would look brilliant with the bright purple tieneck blouse I thrifted (and that needs a complete button overhaul) on my last outing. But that's neither here nor there really. I love finding these great home projects. And at least the buttonholes offer some symmetry. Mistakes with PURPOSE.

Lovely print!!

I found an orange skirt and a red vintage dress. I had been looking for something in orange for a while. I can't wait to wear it.
