Two Questions

pailette4

pailette3

pailette1

Skirt? Debbie Shuchat, Winners (old!)
Plaid shirt? Ralph Lauren, thrifted
Jacket? Old Navy
Purse? Claudia Firenze, Winners
Thigh highs? h&m
Boots? Kenneth Cole, Winners

#1.Don't you hate it when you have to go to the bathroom after you have all your hockey equipment on? Ok, I actually don't know what that really feels like, but I imagine it's kind of how I felt after I was finally booted up and ready to go and I discover a little runner in my tights. Normally, a run doesn't deter me from living my life but when you are wearing a paillette mini-skirt and thigh high leg warmers, holey tights may be pushing it a little too far, non?

#2. Do you ever wonder what Stacey and Clinton would say? Our ghetto cable package does not include TLC, so I don't even watch What Not to Wear anymore but sometimes those two haunt me. Most of the time, I think I'm decently conservative and I try to stick to my personal rules of flattery (basically, only wear it if it looks good, not just if it's trendy) and I think I'd be Ok in their eyes. With this outfit I'm not sure... The paillette skirt would definitely be a knockout paired with a blousy top and some heels but it's cold and this is life and I wanted to wear my sparkly skirt now. Pout, pout, whine, whine... I mean, I like how it all worked out in some quirky way but I think Stacey, Clinton and that 365 degree mirror would have something to say to me on this one. Bring it...

pailette2

Outake of the day: Lessson learned. Before you sit down on a hard surface with a paillette skirt, one needs to do the bum smooth to level all the paillettes. Or else, it makes this horrible crunching sound and pinching feeling as you sit...

I'm not familiar with Stacey and Clinton, but this outfit is rockin'. One of my faves ever. I love that tartan shirt no matter how you wear it (the yummy colours . . ), and the way it works with the jacket, bag and boots is gorgeous. Plus! Pailette skirt! Awesome!

stacey and clinton probably don't come across girls who can pull of paillettes + plaid very often...you might confuse them. but i'm sure they would say this look is fantastic. truth!

I think Stacey and Clinton would say, "two thumbs up"!

I have to say I love this and I don't really care about fashion rules. Although I do love me some stacey and clinton. Have you read the book Freakin Fabulous? It's so good.

I love this look! That purse is beautiful, I want those boots, and I can't believe that chic coat is from Old Navy!

I love this outfit! I love how each piece (coat, shirt and skirt) might be thought of in specific functions (cold weather, casual and party) and yet they all go so beautifully together.

Stacey and Clinton haunt me all the time -- I love watching their show, but I always wonder what they would say about some of the stuff in my closet.

is it a normal reaction to want to punch someone in the face for looking so cute? it's a good thing you live in canada...

seriously though, that skirt is killer. stacy london would rip it right off of you -- in a good way. like she would want to borrow it. i digress.

1. Yes

2. What reason in the world would Stacey and Clinton have to speak to you? I mean you wouldn't be on their show, so clearly they are too good for you, because you are too good for them...because you don't need their fashion help...no?

I know you are Dutch, but it's "or else"...it sounds like you are talking to your sister in law...bahaha

Nana Erin said...

1. YES.

2. I would HORRIFY Clinton and Stacey and that's OK, because I have seen them give LOTS of really terrible style advise.

and 3. I love the casual/fancy. It's my favorite look, so I love this top and skirt together.

that skirt is too wonderful!

and while i love stacey & clinton (only she can still pull off "shut-up!" and not sound like she's from 1999!) i don't think they'd approve of some of the ill-fitting clothes I've thrifted, or things like multiple pairs of leg warmers and horizontal stripes...

rules are GREAT! Especially when you're new to the whole putting outfits together thing, but i think breaking them is a lot more fun and fabulous!

I miss Stacey and Clinton - I also don't have TLC, and they haunt me, too.

But I love this outfit! I love the sparkle and that oversized collar on your jacket. It's one of my favorites. Stacey would be all, "Shut UP!" In a good way.

PS That last picture is priceless!

Hahaha, I love both of your questions. Definitely had the bathroom prob before, but I tend to squash any naysaying voices. Rules schmules, right?

I'm lusting after those boots, doll.

Love it. And I've definitely had Stacey and Clinton haunt me...but I think you're good! Like you said, the skirt is unique and shiny but you have lovely, more conservative pieces around it. All looks great! Fun fact: my sister randomly met them at her prom (they were staying at the same hotel). I was so very jealous.

holy moly i love this outfit!!! i think all the time "what would stacy and clinton think?" but the fact is that most contestants come off their show looking pretty damn similar, and not many come out looking as fabulous, interesting, or unique as the bloggers i love the most. but still, the nagging voice haunts me.
in this case, i think they'd say you look fabulous--love the unexpected plaid with the sparkles, and the mellow color palette with the variety of interesting pieces.

Stacey and Clinton would say you look HOT. Anyway, Stacey breaks her own rules. You know why? Cause she can, cause she knows she looks hot! When you're as statuesque as I imagine you are, and as naturally classy, you can pretty much make the world your oyster and I bet S & C would say you are "Shut the Door Gorgeous."

Cause you are. That skirt is literally making me ache with love.

I love this! The mix of the super fun skirt with the casual other pieces is so very cool! You look great in this and totally pull it off. Whether Stacy and Clinton would think so or not!

I really want to see that show. You look fantastic. I really like all the mix of things: sequins, tartan, the coat... You took some risks and it worked out.

Agree on both counts- in fact, runs seriously can affect a morning. And as for Stacy and Clinton, they're always in my head! Even know, when, like you, I can't watch them because I don't have cable. So sad.

P.S. I really love how you paired the plaid with the fancier skirt, very cool!

This look super awesome! Now, go box it all up and send it to me. Thank you :)

LOVE this look - and still hate you for getting that jacket at old navy for a ridiculously cheap price. :)

Yes, and yes. I HATE having to mess with myself after I'm finally all put together. It's the pits. And I like to think that Stacy and Clinton are my little angel/demons on my shoulders (only I won't tell which is which!).

stacey and clinton can go jump in that big body of water behind you. this outfit is awesome and you styled it perfectly! i am super jealous of that skirt. i have no reason to wear a flashy thing like that but i love it and i may have to go find one!

Gorgeous photos! I really love this layered look! Those boots are so great. :)

Wow! I would never think of this combination - sequin skirt, plaid shirt and thigh high socks, but it really, really works! Great inspiration to try out unexpected combinations...!

AsianCajuns said...

Oh I think Stacy and Clinton it would love it! They would say something about it representing your sparkling personality and as it's in a demure black paired with other demure-y things I believe you would get an approving nod from both.
Love the layers! Great inspiration, Jentine!!!

Paillettes and plaid...PERFECT combo! Stacy and Clinton have a running commentary in my head. Ah ha ha

I am way too OCD to go all day with a run in my tights so I wholeheartedly agree with your need to change. And I watch WNTW all the time - and they haunt me too! If I ever have to run to the grocery store in my sweats, I cringe to think of what they'd say!

love this outfit! love how you are experimenting with different textures- it works!!! i don't believe in fashion rules ;)
