Skirt? Tevrow and Chase, Winners
Blouse? Ralph Lauren, Winners
Sequin vest? thrifted
Belt? roots, thrifted
Shoes? Frye, Winners
Tights? ?
Clutch? thrifted

I wasn't really looking forward to today*. I knew it was going to be a hard day and there was no way to avoid it. So I dressed up. I know there are more mature ways to deal with difficulties but if I feel even this ---- much better by wearing high heels and something fabulous, than it was worth it.
I know you are probably sick of hearing me talk about the Winner's final sale, don't worry, March starts tomorrow and the sale is over. My readers and my credit card breathe a sigh of relief... However, I did get this Tevrow and Chase skirt for $16 on the third last day of the sale. The pattern is so intense and I love the fullness; wearing it makes me happier. The skirt is too big on me and I intended to just sew some extra pleats on to make it sit at my natural waist. But then I realized it looked cool sitting low on my hips too and it's good to get out of your comfort zone. And yes, less work as well...
May I take a moment and extol the virtues of a crisp, white shirt? They look good with almost anything and make any outfit chic. The sad thing with crisp, white shirts is that they have a shelf life and soon move on to become just plain, white shirts. I feel like my beloved white shirt has lost its crispness and while others may not notice, it bugs me. When it all comes together and I sell my romance novel, I will have my maid keep my closet stocked full of the crispiest white shirts. A new one every day...

Taking pictures through the port holes... so cute, right? Then we pan out...
Matt didn't even notice random words written on the sides of the boat. I went through the pictures later and found this... oops...

* Canada winning gold in Men's hockey was pretty awesome though. There was a impromptu celebration downtown and it was fun to watch the excitement. However, I just wanted to tell some people that I'm glad their track pants say 'Canada' on them and all, but they should still not be worn outside. Cause I'm a hater...carry on...

I really love these pictures and the gold with the print of the skirt - just lovely!

Congrats to your hockey team, although we Americans are totally disappointed!!! :(

i hope your day went okay, with the help of your all-star outfit.
by the way, i LOVE that skirt on you and am so pleased with your commentary on it, because i recently got a skirt which is also a little too big. i wanted to wear it at my waist but it really fits more naturally a little lower. i'm sewing-challenged, so i wouldn't have a clue how to sew it up shorter, so i've been belting it high up but seeing you with this skirt at the hip looking absolutely lovely, i'm thinking "why have i been fighting the fit of the skirt? i can do as jentine does."

I love this, the colors are beautiful and your hair looks so pretty like that! And I'm all about the crisp white shirt and its amazingness.

And the best part - I totally know where these pictures were taken!! How fun!! :)

you look so great. how do you manage to put sequins in everyday outfits and make it look so easy and casual? i just love it. sorry today wasn't great. i don't know why, but i hope it gets better for you. i will say congrats to you canadians on your win. i am completely bummed out about it. but, it was an awesome and exciting game and i don't even like hockey. so go have some champagne and a cigar and celebrate!!!!!! :)

A gold vest and a gold medal! WOOO!

Agreed - a white shirt is sheer perfection. Pair it with anything, it really is the perfect thing to have in your closet.

Love the outfit. You look so glam!

apparently there was a big hockey game on today eh? news to me. I'm sure a miserable excuse for an American.

My inner magpie is doing spazmastic cartwheels looking at your vest. And also hitting me upside the head (figure that one out) for not wearing the amazing vintage butterfly sequined batwing sleeved top I got at a thrift store in NY yet. Thank you for making that part of my outfit tomorrow. My cats will appreciate all the light dancing on the walls as I walk around my apt.

merl said...

Also- I have to disagree about the crisp white shirt being the cat's meyow. I happen to think an off-white silk oversized button up is as close to heaven as I'm going to get.

Melissa said...

Totally agree with you on the sweatpants. They shouldn't be worn in public unless you're on your way to the gym and that's only if you're going straight from your car to the inside of the gym.
Love your vest!

What a great backdrop for this outfit. The colours are just so rich I feel like I'm watching Moulin Rouge.

Also, your hair looks gorgeous!

Kendi Lea said...

I hear your pain on the white shirt dilemma. But I have much lower standards and that shirt still looks pretty crisp, so feel free to pass that on to me when you become published.

Oh and yes I agree with Lovers, Saints, Sailors-- your hair is gorgeous, as always.

The waistcoat over the white top is so fab. I love the skirt too. What a fun shoot. xoxo

merl said...

so basically what you're saying is that we both need to wear our sequined tops tomorrow and have a glitter show-off. all in good fun of course..

Linda said...

ORRRRR if the skirt is too big you can always give it to me! :)

Dunno what happened today but feel free to email me ( or call, I guess the phone does work) and spill anytime. I wanted to text Matt so badly when we won, then I remembered....:(

I love that skirt! It will be so cute in springtime weather too! You are so brave to pair it with a sparkly vest, it looks great :) Do you have any tricks for wearing sequins/sparkles in the day or do you just throw it on when you feel like it?

Unknown said...

sequins...and cripsy whites can definitely brighten up your day.

I love how you put everything together - that vest is killer!

Julia said...

Um. YES. OBVIOUSLY YES. I mean, this is me, and today you're wearing BRAIDS, a FULL SKIRT, COLOR and LAYERS. Wow, enough caps, but I'm so excited by this outfit. Totally one of my very favorites, and girl, I'm copying your hair tomorrow. Point blank.

Congrats on the Canada win! My husband was watching the game when I dragged him outside to take pictures and he kept whining to go back in.

Wow, I love that skirt! How come MY Winners doesn't have good stuff like you have?? I combed the racks on Friday and only found a t-shirt, a skirt and a pair of shoes. Hmmm..I guess that's a lot, ha!

Yay for Canada! I could hear people driving by, honking their horns all evening. :)

“I’d say. These duds are fine lookin’, better than that sexy fireplug down the street. I’d give this outfit a rear-leg salute any day. That skirt, white blouse ‘n’ vest look like old friends who haven’t seen enough of one another.”

“You getting’ sentimental on me, Chew?”

“ No, Boss. When she’s on, she’s on.”

“I’d say.”

My husband was thrilled with the hockey win too! It's a good thing I'm not super nationalistic or these Olympics might have really tested our marriage. :D

I love the sequined vest, and I know exactly what you mean about the shelf life of a crisp shirt. That one still looks crisp to me, though.

I love this outfit on you! It's a departure from what you normally do, I think, but really perfect. Love the brain too - so cute.

Hm...meant "braid" (above) not brain. But you know, your brain is cute too :)

Hahahahahaha, that last picture is funny.

I love the sequin vest and how you are wearing it. I wouldn't have thought to style it that way, but it really works!

Fabulocity in Amish Country said...

Wow, that vest is fabulous! I would've probably overlooked this in a store... but you totally rocked it out!

Wow! These pictures are amazing! And you KNOW you photoshopped that graffiti in there ;)

What a fun outfit!

I, too, love a good, crisp, white shirt. Although, I haven't always. I did all of my family's weekly ironing when I was young, and my Dad was a suit-and-tie to the office everyday guy for a while, so his weekly shirt pile was huge. After years of ironing those shirts, I got fed up with the whole activity, and semi-vowed never to do it again. Until a few years ago when I realized that I felt and looked a mess with a rumply white shirt! Ah, c'est la vie!

Can't decide if Mr. Tate is creepy, funny or a friend of yours messing with your friend.

great great outfit!!! so jealous of your find!!!!!!!!!

Hi honey - this outfit is insane! The first thing I did when the page loaded was blurt out, 'oh, look at what she's wearing!'. I didn't even notice your kick-arse hair at first (even though your hair advice is hilarious - you should write a book or perhaps incorporate your favourite tips into your romance novel . . )

The colours here are amazing, so pretty and so MUCH and all together at once. White shirts were made and meant for vests - the very best way to wear them, if you ask me. Completely fantastic! Applause!

My son's teacher is Canadian and actually took the day off work - I don't yet know if the hockey victory was a factor but I intend to find out.

Hope your day of dread worked out OK; know that you always make me smile, so hopefully your loyal fanbase can return the favour when you need it.

You might try using spray starch when you iron your shirts to keep them crisp. I swear by it...and I like the way it smells, too.
