Beanie Baby

The other day, a friend and I were discussing the difference between a toque and a beanie. I mean, I know that the toque is kind of a Canadian symbol. Every joke about Canada starts with a toque, adds a pinch of maple syrup and ends with Nickelback... (ummm... when I typed that out I realized how awkward that sounds as a combination. Carrying on...). I just thought that maybe the beanie referred more to the looser style of knit hat?
According The Google however, it's a beanie in America and a toque in Canada.
Whatever we are calling them, I'm a big fan. And when it's cold out or when my hair is a mess, I have a something on my head. So, right now, that's about 81% of my waking hours.

1. maria paola calugi (very similar in red, black or white)
2. Joe Fresh (on sale in store)
3. Asos (here or red/blue mix here)
4. Joe Fresh (on sale in store)

After careful consideration and long hours of internal debate, I placed these as my top four winter hats.

What about you? Did the beanie trend bite you... or is this not a trend to you but simply a winter essential?

Generally speaking, my curly head doesn't play well with hats. Having said that; yes, the toque trend just nibbled. I bought one two days ago that I have yet to wear. Since, I have waxed poetic about all things Joe Fresh, I should head {ha ha} over there and see if they have any toques left.

Now I have to go and erase the unfortunate image in my mind...

It's a Whistler essential...worn indoors and out. And it must be slouchy! I was even schooled by one very helpful young lady in the GLC who showed me how to perfect the slouchiness. Picky crowd up here! ;)

I'm originally from Tennessee, and there we call them "toboggans". Have never gotten used to "beanies" here in CA.

Ya it bit me... right in the ass cause I look like a tool in TOQUES. I love how fashionable and lovely you look in every hat... meanwhile I look like a troll. Not to mention if on for longer than 1.2 minutes my hair turns into a monster that only a re-wash and blow dry could fix.

So I guess my real answer is... no, I wear hoods.

:p

I have NO IDEA what a toque is or how to pronounce it... I do however love a good beanie and I WANT that red one! So cute! I wear them all the time outside and occasionally wear them all day long at work.

It's definitely a winter essential for me, not a trend. I like spending time outside in the snow, so hats are a must. And they're fun, too, of course.

I LOVE toques. I have quite the collection and think they're ridiculously cute and a winter essential.

i totally struggle with winter hats because my curls do NOT like being crushed. it's kind of sad. having said that... curls are kind of like wearing a furry hat all year round so maybe it's not an issue hehehehe.

I love your beanies - so cute! and you are a fantastic hat model my dear :)

I never knew that a beanie was called a toque in Canada. Interesting. Whatever you call them, your winter essential hats are just adorable! You look amazing in beanies. That red one is probably the cutest thing I have ever seen.

You are beautiful! I have a small head so the beanie will literally cover my whole head and face!

You gotta add Bob and Doug McKenzie if you're talking about the Great White North, EH! Love toques, though now that I'm in France I've adopted the beret, mais out. Still have some grungy-glam toques hanging about - no pom-poms, but with glittery thread sewn in. :)

You are so so pretty! And I love your beanie collection, especially the first one. The fuzz ball on the top is too precious!

You wear a hat so well and I like that it's called a toque. You'd think I'd hear that term once or twice in Michigan, but never! Anyways, just want to remind you of how beautiful you are and that I love you in a hat!

Definitely winter essential. I grew up in the USA, so I always knew it as a beanie but them came to Canada and everyone made fun of me so I started calling it a toque hahah. I have really big hair so its always hard to find a toque that fits the right way... any suggestions as to wear to find larger hats?

Ashly Kissman- Maybe try a Winners or a Marshalls? they have all different brands which makes it easier to find one that fits. The first beanie of these ones featured, it def the most roomy.

I am definitely a fan of the 'toque'. Of course because it's purely Canadian, and it's the perfect way to disguise unwashed/ untamed hair! (I tried out the turband on the blog today though and must admit I do love them now too.)

::raising hand:: me! pick me!... which you do and I say, "I LOVE BEANIES!"

I've never heard of toque, but I suppose I'd wear that too.

I am all about toques for winter ( I just don't like the sound of "beanie"). They are essential!
