Thrift That Trend

necklace3

These collared necklaces are all the rage with the cool kids nowadays. I know this because I've read it in A Magazine and everyone knows, if it's in print, it's true. Also, Krystal wore one and she's a stylish cat...
If you want to join in on the trend, you can buy this really pretty one... or you can thrift one for $3. I did. If you want to be even smarter, check your mom and grandmother's jewelry box first... Borrowing something for life is even better than thrifting and it's rare that I think something is better than thrifting.
But trust me, if you can't borrow one permanently, thrifting has your back.

I thrifted one like this, although on a smaller scale, last week for a buck fifty! loving this trend and that we can find them for cheap. :)

i have so many things that i've borrowed for life from my grandma's jewelry box. i'm just hoping she doesn't want to borrow anything back because i've kind of gotten attached to it all! next i'm looking through her stash for a collar necklace.

I wish my mom had hung onto more of her things. Thankfully my grandmother was crazy stylish and is very generous with her things :) I love this necklace. Makes me want to hit up all of my favorite thrift stores in the area. It's been too long...

Your necklace is divine. I could see it going really well with anything tribal-print. I thrifted a gold and red 80s chunky necklace this weekend - not for $3 but for $10.

Love the choker AND love that frame you're holding. What's the story on that?

Loving the choker trend too. Scour places like etsy & market publique to score a vintage treasure if you aren't such a thrifter.

Great score, Jen! Thought you might like to hear about the amazing treasures I thrifted this weekend: a dark red wool boucle early 60s swing coat with stand-up dark brown fur collar for $5, a gorgeous green silk sari-style vintage cocktail dress for $4 (it even had its matching belt!), and a black/white velvet plaid tags-still-on never-been-worn Chessa Davis maxi-skirt for $4. My heart is still palpitating over these finds!

I saw one of these in a thrift store yesterday and nearly bought it. I should have!

gleeps- are you trying to kill me? You leave me great comments with what you found and you don't have a blog where I can stalk the goods?

Jen, I am so lame -- I haven't learned how to blog yet. When I get with the times, I'll be sure to let you know.
I am loving your new hat!

I have a much smaller, less shiny but definitely an 11 on the awesome scale one. I never thought to put in under a collar... I will have to try that à la Krystal (is that her name?)

I didnt know they were trendy, that's kinda disappointing.

Oh AND they are not easy to thrift. and if you do find gems like there, they are often in the 'glass case' and can be a lot more pricey.

I have almost this exact hammered gold collar necklace. We could totally be twinsies.

This necklace actually is reminiscent of the Dannijo for Vena Cava necklace I've been looking at lately on shopbop - great find!
