Beaded belt? Thrifted
Earrings? F21
Jeans? h&m
Boots? Winners

I'm helping some friends out for a bit by taking their dog, Sage, for daily walking adventures. Sage is, well... not sage. She is easily excited, a little dumb but so very sweet. ('Just the way I like them' he said, as he absentmindedly picked at the mustard stain on his Bud Light t-shirt). For years I thought I was just a cat lady but now I know that giving a big mutt from the shelter a forever home would make me happy as can be. But that is not going to happen anytime soon. Already when I rescued Stella, I went over the 2 cat limit imposed by Matt. While Matt likes animals and is the biggest sucker for our cats, he is not keen on having a dog and I can respect that. But I can wholeheartedly embrace being a volunteer dog walker... even as I am standing on some one's front lawn, ready to do the right thing and scoop, only to discover that the bag I took has a huge rip right down the centre.

Someone gently chided me a while back for the unattractiveness of the slightly drop crotch h&m jeans that I wear all the time. My angry retort to that is... meh, you have a point. They are certainly not the most flattering jeans I have. I am actually a little confused as to how much the jeans have wormed their way unto my everyday wear. I admit, I have been wearing them a lot because they are so comfortable and one of a few pairs of my jeans that don't pinch. There has been some couch sitting and cookie eating this winter (sometimes these activities are done in a mutually exclusive manner and sometimes... they are even done simultaneously) and nothing is worse than the angry pinch of denim reminding you of your excess. The good news is that the last while has been filled with lots of veggies, snow shovelling and dog walking. May the future will be filled with other jean options...

No shame, Sage?

That color blue looks very pretty on you (and Sage actually... the leash matches)

I need to start volunteering w/ animals. I am just afraid to work at a shelter b/c I would take home all the little guys.

Hello, gorgeous lady! You look smokin. I am having major "outfit crush" right now. Loving your dressy pieces (earrings + top) mixed with the more casual pieces (jeans + jacket) -totally gorgeous! And happy doggy sitting. xx veronika

Once again I envy you...how many times must this happen. Here's the low down down low. I've wanted a puppy for ages...not happening...we're renting. So my next best option was to make friends with someone who has a dog, walk it daily and my life would once again be made complete. Yeah, that hasn't happened yet so I'll just keep on envying you.

OH hi Sage! I see a little Rottweiler / Pitt mix in there. Is it now safe to say that you are just a plain animal lover? Yeah, that's what I thought. Whatever Matt, dogs need loving too.

Low crotch, high society. That's what my mother always said.

You're right about the angry pinching denim. I prefer to consider the denim spiteful and angry instead of thinking there's anything wrong with me. Haha.

Oh Sage, what a face! And her fur complements your outfit color scheme beautifully.

I love the outfit. I just saw these boots at Winners yesterday and thought about buying them. Are they comfy?

Maria- don't know if you are my Maria or just a Maria but Byu These Boots Now. Undoubtedly they are super cheap b/c of end of season sales, they are so comfortable and go with skirts and pants. No now... seriously!

huh. I have never thought those jeans were unattractive in any way. I think they are pretty cool. And I think you look great with a dog. Just get one that hates to be walked. That's what I did. Whenever I see suckers walking their dog in 30 degree temps I think "SUCKA! shoulda got a lazy dog."

I swear to you that good jeans are the hardest thing to find. The only pair I've found that I felt even half happy with were a pair of super expensive maternity jeans... which well, wouldn't really be appropriate to wear now... boo hiss. (ps. sage is sooo cute!)

Some days you just need to go with comfort over fashionable pinch - it's nice to know I'm not the only one! :)

Sage is adorable!! I have 2 pups- one a rescue- and they are the BEST addition in my life (along with the hubby!)

Not "your" Maria, but I've been read your blog regularly now for 6 months or so. Thanks for weighing in on the boots issue. Will buy now.

Don't let the haters get you down - the drop-crotch skinny is oh so au courant in Europe right now. We had a hard time finding any jeans for the boyfriend that weren't what TopShop calls the "Skinny Carrot" - drop-crotch and relaxed fit up top, then skinny from the knees to the (sometimes elasticized!) ankle. Like, woah. And H&M even calls this fit "The New Standard," so you can bet your bottom dollar all the naysayers will be sporting them in six months, and you'll have been a serious trendsettah.

(Personally, I like to hold off on adopting trends for at least four years, because that is just how I roll. Two-thousand and late, indeed.)
