I wore my ruffled silk dress to go to the grocery store. I suppose that's not completely unnatural. I started a blog and I started over dressing...

Originally, it was a joke between Kendi and I... this whole idea of wearing fancy clothing to perform mundane tasks. She wore her fanciest 30 for 30 dress to the post office and got hit on by a 90 year old man. Nothing that exciting happened to me when I wore this dress BUT... I am pretty sure a 9 year old boy down the street from where I work has a crush on me. I was driving a big lawn tractor the other day and he was impressed. He told me he had $400 in the bank, I told him I have a mortgage... Anyways, that story has nothing to do with this post, I'm just keeping my ego inflated.... thanks for reading...

And then, what started out as a joke but it became a little bit more. We're kind of settled into the new house (new to us... it's actually over 80 years old)... it's been a week of mini breakdowns (uhhh... yeah, that would be me...), cleaning, packing and crappy food. I'm tired and I just want to eat fruit, veggies and bran until Christmas. So getting dressed nicely after a week of half-assed dressing and going out to get good, healthy groceries felt like a new start. A fresh start at a new address.

You look gorgeous. I overdress all the time. I love my clothes too much to dress down.

hehe that's so funny!! You girls are adorable - but in a contest I think I might beat you both... since I'm home with two little kids all day, but still insist on dressing like I have a reason to.
ps. I hope you start to feel a little more relaxed about the move! so tough hey?

oh those boots are killer! and i will occasionally wear fancy things to do mundane tasks around town. but even if i do wear something for a day at my shop and then have to go to walmart for something, i feel a bit strange. really walmart is the only place i feel strange in. like when i wore my fur collar, lace skirt, platform sandals and knee socks. then i walked into a huge building that houses a mcdonalds, tampons, gingerbread house kits, and a miley cyrus clothing line.

hey girl!
love this outfit! i bet all the people were jealous at the grocery store. pretty sure if i saw you I'd hid my head in shame cuz id be in my good old american eagle sweats! lol moving is so stressful i know! i hope everything starts to calm down and you can be stress free and just think about how fab you look!

Question for thrifty thursdays! do you do any thrift shopping online and if so where?

This is my kind of outfit. Love the blue and white. Love the belted cardigan, and the tights and boots. You nailed it!
Congrats on the move. Did the Japanese maple make it?

You really make me laugh. It's no wonder you have a 9 year old crushing on you... big lawn tractor driving IS impressive. Hehe.

I love this outfit! The belted cardigan and boots are wonderful.

I've got the most amazing dress that I've never worn because I'm always waiting for the right time - that right time might be turkey time.

I love the dress and especially the cardi. I don't know about you (Ha! As if! I totally do . . . ) but when I've finished work I climb out of the pants and singlet and hoodie, and put on a dress and feel happy. Even if I'm at home by myself and no one can see me.

Ugh. I know the crappy food feeling. I got that way on our last road trip. I NEEDED something green or I was going to go crazy. I get dressed up for the grocery store, too. If I don't get at least 3 stares like I'm crazy I feel let down. It's how I entertain myself here in the 'burbs.

Somewhere in my jumbled brain is something I read along the lines of wearing perfume to the store, because the cashier can smell as well ... just the same, they too can appreciate your ruffled dress even though you just wore it to shop. You look gorgeous ...

Those shoes are so great that I was literally whispering "don't be thrifted, don't be thrifted" the whole time I was scrolling down because if you found them along with those wicked strapped boots that you have at a thrift store I'd about die of jealousy.

Amazing!!! Wearing a ruffled dress to go grocery shopping...genius!!

Have a quick question for you, do you ever hear of clothing swaps in South-Western Ontario? I keep reading about them, but have never heard of any in this region.

All the best with settling in your new home!

I love your posts and humour.

I feel like we are twins...SHould we get pregnant together too? How is a 10 year deadline for you sound? I bought oranges at the grocery store in an effort to try to eat something good for me...I have a load of pizza in the fridge..yuck.
You look swell, and I can't blame the kid, hot chicks on tractors? That'll start him early.

LOL, "He told me he had $400 in the bank, I told him I have a mortgage... " Yesss, love this!!

YA!! I'm so glad you're getting settled into your 'new' place (despite the packing, unpacking, cleaning and food that makes you feel blah).

Cute ruffles.

Haha, I saw Kendi "dare" you on her blog, since she did it, and I was just waiting for you to do this! But this is very pretty. I have a similar dress! Except mine has tiny flowers that look like polka dots from far away. Oops, I'm rambling.

As per the new to you house and moving, I'm on the same boat. We're moving and everything is in boxes. Cleaning the old apartment and the new/old town house. At least you plan on eating healthy! All I want to do is eat pizza, ramen, and Maggie Moos. Yeah, healthy! Not.

Sometimes you just need to put on a dress and stock your fridge to feel so much better!

Good luck with moving in! It's so much better than moving out (i.e. redecorating a new space)

I love your version of sweatpants. That ruffled dress is just so beautiful!

I think since I've started blogging, I've overdressed for mundane stuff too, like going to the bookstore, the post office, etc. In a way, it makes me feel better about going through my day, plus I look my best in case I run into a department head/boss/old friend/George Clooney...

the creation of the blog has completely lead to my being overdressed for everything.
but that is okay, i think the people in the grocery store appreciate that you've gotten dressed up for them.

I think the 9 year old won that round. Tell him that's a coincidence because you sell tractor rides for $400 an hour.

Your idea of sweatpants and my idea of sweatpants seem veeeeery different.
