I Can't Pronounce the Wine List

Dress? Vintage, vintage/thrift store (temporarily shortened)
Belt? Michael Kors, Winners
Boots? Aldo
Sparkle clutch? Thrifted

We went out for a supa dupa fancy dinner this weekend with friends... It was a really great, lingering evening but happily we had a gift certificate to help ease the sting of the bill. At a high end restaurant I can't seem to avoid looking down at my plate and seeing a new pair of shoes. It's not as if I don't appreciate fine food but I just appreciate clothing more. That's the beauty of this world isn't it? Everyone has their own interests... some people love clothing, some people love good food and some people love their bug collections. I may have just over simplified the worlds inhabitants into fashion lovers, food lovers and bug collectors...

As much as I see an expensive main course as a missed opportunity to add to my shoe collection, I'm sure some see my dress and think of steak. I hope they think of it as a good cut though... after all, it's a vintage, handmade number. I don't know a lot about steak but I just asked Matt and he said the dress is like top sirloin. That's pretty good, yes?

And yes, it was freezing and dark but we threw on the high beams and put on a brave face and called it an outfit post.

on the rare occassions i go out for fancy dinners, i add up the bill and divide by 8...the number of nail polish bottles i could get.

so, you're not alone!

and love the look as always. :)

I love fashion... but I love food more. I think about food all the time.

LOL, it doesn't LOOK freezing, but then again, if I'm freezing through my outfit posts, I guess you would be too.

Love your vintage dress -- what a fab find. When I go out for fancy dinners, I can't help but look at/play with my jewelry :)

That is a prime rib dress!

haha..I love your comparisons!
I calculate everything in shoes...my hubby will say "I just bought this new bow (weapon, not hair accessory) for $500" to which I reply that's 10 pairs of shoes!!! (I get good deals..haha)..and I know that I have definitely compared the price of a meal to a pair of two of shoes in the past!

ha ha I was telling Matt this the other day. I literally said, "Why eat food that disappears when you can have beautiful clothes that last forever!" He wasn't buying it...he was hungry. I hope you meant literally that you would just shop for me for thirty days, no one will ever know:) I now fully expect plenty of magically thrifted items to appear in the mail during my shopping famine.

I love the combo of patterns! Leopard always looks good.

I'm pretty sure having a sirloin dress is a good thing. As a vegetarian the idea creeps me out a little (a lot?), but I get the idea. As long as you don't have an actual meat dress like that insanely popular pop singer who shall remain nameless, I think you're doing a good job. Is it even possible to have a vintage meat dress? Ugh.

You look gorgeous in this outfit. Even if the food wasn't worth the potential shoes, at least you looked freaking good eating in the shoes you already have. I mean, not eating IN the shoes...

Wow! Love the red lippy.

Is the lining of the dress purple? That alone makes it awesome!

You look so pretty! I do the same thing with dinners out. I enjoy food but I enjoy clothes + shoes longer. . .

I love the print of the dress!

I can take or leave the bugs.
Mostly leave, really.

Lol love your three categories! :)
The dress is stunning on you - looks great with the leopard belt!

Yes, you would be a good steak!! with that dress, wow! A bit short for my taste, but you can totally pull it off!
And yes, shoes are worth much more than these fancy dinners, but when you date a guy and he pays the bill, who cares :)

Top sirloin is not a very good cut...I'd say it's more filet mignon. Love!

Linda said...

Yep, thats your "good god its freakin cold" face..
I don't eat steak so I probably would have just had a french onion soup, a cracker and a glass of tap water so I could save up for new shoes...I'm all class like that.

"Your dress is like top sirloin?" is that what someone said to Lady Gaga and gave her an idea?...

That's a Fabulous dress. (With a capital F) I appreciate good food and clothes about the same. They both make me happy.

Secondhand Stella said...

I agree. I would rather buy something expensive that I can enjoy over and over instead of a fancy meal or going out for drinks.

Cute dress!

I would say that that dress is a rib-eye, the best, juciest cut out there! It is gorgeous! I love it with the wine tights... its an appropriate pairing for the steak analogy.

If this is top sirloin, I want to see a rib-eye. :)

Love your shiny red lips here! And I'm kind of dying to know what restaurant you were at...

LyddieGal said...

Haha, I always think about the cost of a purchase in pairs of shoes.

Bought my computer, there goes 30 pairs of shoes. Went to dinner, pair of boots. Three movies, pair of shoes!!!

So I know just what you mean.

The sirloin dress is great, and I love the leopard belt!

I totally feel like food is worth spending money on. Food, clothes, and cab rides home from the airport after a long weekend. :)

Kate said...

bahahaha! love that you got compared to top sirloin! amazing.

I am the same way, expensive dinners are just wasting the shopping money! It's the same reason I don't speed like a maniac when I drive anymore, $200 tickets?!? No thanks! Wish I would have learned that lesson when I was 16 instead of 25... anyway, I love the sparkly dress!

I feel the SAME way about good food vs. good shoes/clothes/handbags/jewelry. I'd much rather invest $50 in something I can wear over and over, and trade down to a burger and fries. Or ramen noodles. Whatevs.

Rose said...

Oh, god, what about those of us who love ALL THREE? Doooom! Truth be told, sometimes when I need to talk myself out of buying a pair of shoes, I think about the lovely meal I could have instead, and the healthy human interaction that will result! I hear these things are important...

Justine said...

I really like this top because it's so sparkly!
