Shorts? Tokyo, Winners
Shirt? Ralph Lauren, thrifted
Belt? Flea market find
Sandals? Marc Fisher, Winners
Clutch? Thrifted

I bought these shorts on super sale over two and a half years ago and I just cut the tags off this morning. Shame... I really like them but I couldn't figure out how to wear them. The biggest issue is that because they have a paper bag waist, I pull them up to my natural waist and then it all becomes a big walking wedgie. I have finally come to terms with the fact that the paper bag part is supposed to sit low on the hips. It creates some more width in an area I would like to not add width to but I still thought it was cute.
My one brother thought differently. Never mind the fact that he wears pleated pants (and not in a cute fashion blogger kind of way)... He told me that while I usually dress nicely, he really hated my shorts. Then, he proceeded to tell me that they look like flowerpots (?) and they make my hips look big. Thank-you, tell me how you really feel... Expect these shorts to make appearances at many future family events... just out of spite. I told you I was mature.
And how awesome is the belt? I bought it at a flea market five minutes before these pictures were taken and I swapped out my trusty Michael Kors for Canadian national animals. The belt itself is cool, it needs a good polish but the belt buckle is definitely the best part. The moose on it is finely carved unto the leather and it's so detailed... It is in the same vein as the wall paper from the previous post... good in a tacky kind of way...

you are one of those people blessed with being able to wear things at both hip and waist and look proportional and willowy both ways.
these shorts are AWESOME on you. glad they stayed in your closet!

Huh, how ironic... the shorts are my favorite part of the outfit! (Except maybe the belt) They're unusual.

Um he's totally wrong, you rock the shorts! I love your earrings btw :)

I think they look great, you have the figure for them for sure!
My younger brother will often say to me, 'Are you going out in that?', when it's quite obvious I am. Trust them to be honest...

All the little details here are lovely - the embroidery on your top, the belt buckle, your bracelets... It all works together so well.

Lovely belt! I personally like the shorts on you and wish I could pull it off.

Your brother is a silly boy because those shorts are cute and flattering on you. But the belt...another item I'd totally mug you for (I mean if we were even remotely near the same size. Obviously.)

Ah, brothers and their opinions.

Since I tied the older of my two brothers to a chair and tried to set him on fire when we were young (we were playing! i was trying to burn him at the stake, duh!)he has been the most agreeable thing ever!
-No, you're not fat, Eleanor!
-That outfit looks great, Eleanor!
-You're queen of the world Eleanor!
See? Just gotta bring them up right!!!

"It all becomes a big wedgie"...classic...I am still laughing.

is this utrecht brother?! crazy boys and they're crazy opinions. love the moose belt.. doesn't get much more canadian than that. i know you said you didn't have your citizenship, but hey wear this belt down to whatever governmental place that grants it and they'll be falling over themselves to give you citizenship!
i've been searching for a pair of shorts similar to those for at LEAST a good 6 days! BC winners fails me again. PS: congrats to your motherland on making the final!

The shorts look great on you - don't know what your brother is talking about!

The belt is a truly excellent find. I love it!

Pfft. Boys. Respect the hips! I'd totally rather create width at the hips than elsewhere, and mine are rather big to start with. These shorts look great.

What a great brother! I'll go ahead and disagree with him. They don't make your hips look big at all! And btw, that belt is completely the coolest thing I've ever seen:)

Pfft... the brother doesn't know anything! I love this outfit, especially the patriotic moose on the belt buckle! Looking lovely!

You totally gotta wear these shorts at the hip. They look perfect that way, and I don't think they make you look wide at all. You have skinny hips!

I just had the same wedgie problem with a pair of shorts the other day. Great find on the belt.
BTW, I think the shorts are lovely.

Brothers are always so kind with their overly forthcoming brutally frank comments about wardrobe choices. Pretty sure the last time I was home, I had on black OPAQUE tights and a body con skirt.. and I heard at least 3 comments about working the corner before I slapped him.

belt=amazing. If you find one with a cow sitting on a chunk of cheese, you know where to send it to.

ps.. MY PLANTS ARE ALIVE!! my thumb is black no mo.

Love your belt and clutch. And fear not, those shorts are cool.

I love how honest the comments are from people. One of my colleagues told me that I'm always wearing something "a bit weird". I took it as a compliment. Suggest the same approach with your brother.

(PS The word verification for this comment is probro. Thought you'd like to know)

Those are exactly the kind of shorts I'm looking for. I think, contra your brother, that they're really flattering on you. That belt is a really neat touch.

Nice brother - LOL.

The pictures by the water are beautiful. I'm loving your sandals and esp. your clutch.

Great score on the belt.

So...don't be surprised if that incredible belt is pinched while you sleep. Sure I live approximately 48,000,000 miles away (probably more), I'd make a trip just for that belt.

And I think those shorts look fantastic. I love the stripes and the low belt loops. You've done really well.

Mmmm hmm, love the belt. Excellent find. It's nice that your brother can be so honest. I sure do hope you told him how you honestly feel about his opinion back. ;) Perhaps "You're a stupid face!" or some such thing.

I love the shorts, they look perfectly non- hippy, non-flower pot, non-wedgie on you. Paper-bag pants are tricky though... I agree, its hard to know where they are supposed to sit, and what looks right- I design pants and I don't have the answer. But I do knot that these look right on you. =)

I don't think these make you look wide. I think they look the way they are supposed to! Some fashion just isn't made for boys!

Where the hell are you? It looks like you could be dockside in Greece or something like that... hmmm maybe Vancouver isn't the only pretty city in Canada (kidding :P)

Way late so no one is going to read it, but whatever...

Everyone, trust me, they look worse in person. These shorts fully deserve every denigrating thing I said about 'em. They're terrible! Horrific! Not worthy of being worn by my very stylish sister! :p

@ Glitter Scrubs: I'm the oldest brother, who's still living in the best country in the world, Canada.

hahahhahah it's never too late! Unfortunately I just discovered a month later that I cannot spell 'their' which is pretty interesting. Public school failed me.
Henk, although we may not agree on your sister's choice of shorts (I still think they're awesome!) I definitely agree with you on the best country in the world!!
