Dressed to Stress

I really didn't mean to flake on dressing my best. I love the idea of dressing for 5 days to honour 5 body parts. Once again, I was busy with work which made getting dressed nicely on a week day hard and then, we also decided to join in some real estate shenanigans this week. That made me stop thinking about how much I like my ski-jump nose (that my brother has as well) and how to dress for that (suggestions?) and start appreciating my heart for continuing to beat, my teeth for not grinding down to nubbins and my stomach that felt like it was in knots but for not actually being in knots.
You see Matt and I foolishly fell in love with a house. A house with so much potential and so much more character than we ever thought we could afford. Think old wood trim, crazy staircases, front porch... and in need of emergency exterior work and really ugly (I kid you not...) kitchen and bathrooms. All the original stuff is great but the updates make no sense. This house needed some foolish young couple to sign up for all the work that needs to be done to bring this house back to the glory days. Some other people thought they were foolish enough to invest as well and so we had to rush an offer in and then drink to calm the nerves and wait for news. And yes!... conditionally it's ours. Conditionally... I have to hesitate on bringing out the pinata. So, that's why we have been and still are real busy. I have seen our real estate agent so much this week I have started cooking him dinner (a lie! as Matt hardly gets regularly made meals...)...

Skirt? Liz Claiborne, thrifted
Sweater? F21
Tights? h&m
Boots? Aldo
Purse? Winners
Scarf? gifted h&m (originally tied around the neck but it gets hot talking finances...)

I decided to dress up to see our mortgage lady at the bank. I wore a thrifted skirt because nothing says fiscally responsible like some $6 Liz Claiborne.

You never ever fail to entertain me! (How do you dress to emphasise your stonkin' sense of humour?) I can't believe you're so damn stylish and so damn funny!

Congrats on the conditional house - fingers crossed for unconditional . .

I love the academichic's idea of dressing your best this week, but I knew I wouldn't be able to participate because of work. If you look at my flickr photostream lately it's been leggings-tastic (for the purposes of leaping around in my living room choreographing and practising). One day I might even commit to a Nadine-off-to-work series where I could showcase my extensive collection of racer-back singlets and dancing tights . . .

Think that's probably enough about me. Stay beautiful!

(Word verification is 'spend'. I kid you not. Is it a sign?)

Ps - your skirt and grey knit remind me of this shot of Garance's:

Oh my word, I totally remember what that was like. When my husband and I bought our (freakin' adorable) house just a bit over a year ago there were 6 other offers on the table. Six people in our town of 80,000 wanted this house?! I still am amazed that we got it.

But you think buying a house feels busy? Being a new homeowner... now that is the next level. You're going to be ace at it!

Conditional congratulations!

I love those stockings. I had a pair just like it but they tore way too soon :(

Congratulations on (conditionally) finding a house you love. Yes, the financial stuff is scary, but from what little you've said, it sounds like a real winner - a house with good bones that needs just enough reworking to be fun.

My suggestion for house-buying activities is to dress slightly on the conservative side and to wear comfortable shoes, particularly when you get the house inspection done. You'll be all over the property, from the basement to the attic (maybe even the roof!), and it's a good idea to wear shoes that you can climb ladders and go up and down stairs lots in.

Fingers crossed for 'conditionally' to become 'actually!'

CONGRATS!!! My husband and I are one of those foolish young couple who bought an amazing old house with no floors in some rooms, original 1912 floors in others, and a big mess through out the entire house! Good luck with all of your planning (and that paperwork!)
you look great, and so mortgagely responsible!

Great outfit, Jentine. If you're still shopping around for finances, I can't recommend Lisette Amalfi Harris in Dundas highly enough. She's a mortgage broker who really knows her stuff.

I love the skirt - so perfect with the soft sweater. And how exciting about the prospect of the house! We're in the exact same stage with the exact same time type of house! It has a ton of potential and we're going to be the suckers doing it!

The idea of committing so legally to a property gives me major anxiety, followed by perfused sweating, but kudos to you crazy lady. Although the more I stalk apartment therapy and covet all the white cupboards and reno's the more I wish we would've bought the condo we're renting.. and then I think of the responsibility, and revert back to my 15 year sense of adulthood. Besides, I got places to see, people to do.. I mean.. (I had to)

I have been checking out your blog for a few months. Congrats on the (conditional) house!!
I love the skirt and it never occurred to me that sweaters can be tucked in. A whole new world of options has been opened.
