So, I guess this is what disappointed looks like... Not too bad, if I may say so myself. I've said it before but clothing can lift your mood quicker than a snocone and some inhaled helium.
Yup. This week kinda sucked. Our deal for the new old house fell through. I know that everything will work out as it's supposed to and maybe this just wasn't meant to be, but it is still a bitter pill. This is the busiest time of year for us and we spent so much time trying to make this happen in the last few weeks and now it all feels like it was for nothing. Long story short... we knew the house needed emergency work (had. to. be. done.) and we budgeted a generous amount for that. After getting all our quotes in for the work and the getting an additional inspection that uncovered some more serious problems, the total number was double what we had budgeted. This was work that would have had to be done before winter and before we could even get insurance on the house, so the wiggle room on spreading the renos over a few years was less than a pair of 80's jeans. We asked for a large but fair price adjustment and that didn't go over so well... hence, the deal fell through. It mostly sucks because we put so much work into getting our ducks in a row (where did this expression come from?) and for two weeks we thought it was going to be our house. Little Miss Not Emotionally Attached got really emotionally attached...
I told the kitties about the new house and how they would have a room of their own. They were pumped. I had also already mentally ripped all the shrubs out of the front yard and put in a mind blasting formal landscape. It's not like I don't love informal landscape as well but there aren't many houses that can carry a formal landscape and this one could... All I was going to ask for my birthday were boxwoods (in October, I was thinking ahead...). Worst of all, I had handed my friends season's passes to wine consumption on the beautiful front porch...
I would be lying if I didn't say I still feel a tiny glimmer of hope that the owners will fully realize the work that needs to be done and drop the price... but if that doesn't happen, I at least have some thrifted pleated silk and pretty sunsets to make me feel better...

That's too bad about the house...that's the worst thing about being a grown up....making grown up decisions...we're at the comepletly opposite side of the house selling...my hubbys already been moved 13hrs away for over 2 months and I'm here with the baby waiting for our house to sell...ugh...
I have to say your outfit is stunning..love the mixed prints with the belt and the dress...sooo pretty...

The adage is cheesy, but true. If the deal didn't work, then that wasn't the right house for you. Your house is still waiting, and just think how said it would be if you'd gone with another one...

I feel the bummed out-ness, though. You thought you had your perfect house, I thought I had the perfect job. I guess we both get to be excited that there's something even better still out there. And what better way to start feeling excited than in a gorgeous dress?

Ohhh, that' so disappointing! But the lighting in these photos is stunning.

My 10-yr-old is extremely interested in the P-80 Shooting Star in the background and wants to know where you are?

Plus I LOVE the grubby hands! Now that I can focus, without being pestered by the aviation enthusiast . . (Srsly he was standing over me watching me type that last comment.)

Oh I'm sorry about the house.

I do love your dress though, especially how you paired it with a leopard belt.

What a shame! Don't worry, you'll find something a thousand fold better now. And you've already got your ducks lined up in advance for this one! ;)

Sorry to hear your bad news - what a drag! I know it might sound cheesy, but sometimes when stuff like this happens it's because there's something better out there for you. Don't give up faith!
The dress is so pretty - looking fabulous is one of the best remedies for this type of downer!

And your number still would have probably ended up double that number in the end.
Smart choice to walk away...
Once while house hunting,I fell head over heels for a picturesque cottage with no closets and a bathroom with a toilet with no leg room. Meaning, there was no where to sit properly rendering the bowl completely useless.
Although the hubs pointed all these finer selling points out to me, I was still saddened it couldn't be mine.
Sometimes the dreams are better than the reality.

The closets probably weren't big enough anyways.
Smart move not getting it, you would have been way more stressed out.

I'm sorry that the deal fell through with the house! You guys will find an even better place and you'll have had the experience of dealing with all this so next time it will be easier.

I lurve that thrifted dress and clutch!

Aw sweetie. That sucks so bad. I'm really sorry to hear it!

Also, I'm kind of freaked out that the Chinese comment spammers who embed malicious links in everything can actually get through your word verification. That's not cool at all!

I'm really sorry to hear about the house. I hope things get figured out soon.

You do look absolutely stunning in this pretty dress!

The house loss sucketh, a LOT. But that dress does not.

Also, are you at the Aviation Museum up by airport here?

Such a shame about the house. Hope it works out for you or you find something you love even more.

On the upside, that dress is to die for.

Holy craziness, Batman. We just "lost" a house too... the sellers didn't budge on some things found in the appraisal, so I'm out $1000. Poopie.

But, like your other bloggie friends, I think you look fabulous. We'll both find something!

Sorry about the house and all the work for nought. I hope you consumed wine anyway. And also ate some chocolate.

And that dress, especially with the leopard print belt, is amazing. You look gorgeous, even though your hands are very grubby, young lady.

Oh, that's too bad about the house! It's rough to have gotten so far in the process and to have it fall through. I hope you find another one just as lovely soon!

Ah, that sucks about the house, I'm so sorry. I remember losing an apartment I really, really wanted and I actually cried. Very unlike me. You're right, though, everything will work out as it is supposed to. On the upside, you look beautiful.

Aww, sorry it didn't work out like you'd hoped but I'm sure it will all work out for the better in the end! Such a pretty dress and I love the leopard print belt and dramatic earrings!

Aww man that really sucks! :( I'll cross my fingers for you that they maybe change their minds..! Your brother lives in Utrecht! what the heck! perhaps you can share with me how to pronounce it. I don't think they were diggin my 'U-trek' way hahah. So gorgeous there! I could seriously live there, eat and ride my bike everyday. Amazing. I loved Holland. It was like a little utopia. Even their little salad BBQs ;) although I've seen pictures on your blog of your BBQ. It appears there was a small hobby farm cooking there haha. Okay sorry for the novel. sending good house vibes your way!

:( Im sorry! I love your dress, though :)

A pretty dress cures most ills- and this one is particularly pretty. And I whilst you should totally allow some time after something like this to wallow a bit (maybe eat some chocolate?) I think your sentiments about it being for the best will ring true in the end. I am always staggered when I look back on events that were so upsetting at the time and find myself saying “Oh, I see, I totally get it now.” Here’s to the totally amazing, so-awesome-it- makes-the-previous-house-look- silly, place you are going to find any day now…

Oh, I'm so sorry the house fell through. I totally feel for you. Maybe this word verification will cheer you up: impregni (seriously!)

Also, I adore this dress. It's stunning!

aside from all else, you look absolutely STUNNING.

First of all, I miss you. No really. I have been away from the blogosphere and for the most part, it has been a good thing. But I have seriously missed your humor, fashion and anecdotes. Secondly, I am so terribly sorry the house deal fell through. I know how attached I would have been and how disappointing it would be. I just hope this means something even better is around the corner!

Wanderlusting said...

Sorry about the dress... being so pretty and having such a pretty (thrifted???) dress must make up for it?

NO? Well, don't worry.... things will come around soon :)

I'm in the final stages (fingers crossed) of buying a house, too and I am terrifying something will fall through! There's so much you need to account for and it's so terribly stressful. I'm sorry your deal fell through, but my friends' and family's experience has shown me that it was probably not meant to be and you'll find something else. You, of course, look gorgeous in the amazing dress :-)

I'm sorry your new old house deal didn't go through, but I'm sure there is something better out there for you! Brett and I were in lovee with this old vintage house that we tried every angle to buy - land contract, etc, but it just didn't work out. Bummer, but I know something better will come up and I'll be glad we held out!
