I missed all the good weather. I left Ontario when it was just starting to warm up nicely and ended up in cold Winnipeg. Then, when I got home again, all the balmy temperatures were gone and it is now miserable, cold and rainy. I decided to embrace the cold with a classic, cosy outfit. Sure I had to swallow my sadness at the sight of other bloggers exposed knees and elbows, but winter can't hold me down. That's right Winter! You want a piece of me?
So, I've been gone this weekend visiting a friend in Winnipeg. I think she moved there about 6 years ago to teach Grade 3 for a year. She told me she would be back. I told her she would find a man and start a family. She said no way... Guess who has a mortgage, a husband and a baby?
We spent the weekend watching way too many movies, making fancy dinners and shopping(!!!!?). In general, I try not to generalize (though I generally still do), but Winnipeg is not the most fashion forward city. Which was awesome because a lot of good stuff gets left behind to get reduced over and over again. I'm sorry to anyone fashionable who lives in Winnipeg, we totally cleaned off the Joe Fresh sales racks at 4 Superstores (the cape...$10) and did the rounds at seven thrift stores (the boots...Goodwill). Let's just say that my luggage was significantly heavier on the way back. Who would've thought that I would have shopped 10X more in Winnipeg than Paris?

PS. Thanks Looks and Books for featuring me as the look of the week... I truly appreciate it.
Oh ya... and I did an interview for Jennifer from Bright, Bold and Unexpected. I feel like I've done a lot of interviews lately and I'm thrilled people care (or do they?) but I think I'm going to start making up answers as I would like you all to think I'm awfully exciting.... click here for my final truthful interview. From here on in I start lying....

P.S. #2... I had major problems uploading this post yesterday (mostly my own fault) and I kept losing pictures and I just now saw that my favourite boot shot got lost in the shuffle... so I'll share it because it's important... real important.

That cape and that jacket. I just...can't...find words.

So timely! I too am visiting a friend and bought a thrifted cape as well! Mine is a bit more... statement piece-esque, given that it is green and yellow plaid with lion head buttons, but I love it all the same!

I can't sleep, it's 1:20 am and the manfriend is snoring. It about time you posted an outfit so that I have something to concentrate on to drown him out. And no the fan on high isn't cutting it.

The cape? Adorable, I'll take it now, not later. Member that thing starting with an L that I talked about in an email? Up tomorrow. Don't get me started on seeing people in bare legs. It practically looks indecent to me..this is what a winter of fashion blogger stalking has done to me.

Well, I haven't seen the Robert Downey Jr movie yet (shocking, I know), but I think this outfit is very Sherlockian. Which is a good thing. And I have distant Scottish ancestry, so any tartan is good tartan. If it's any consolation, I'm starting to have to put my New Zealand legs away for the end of summer, but DAMN I wish I looked as good as you do in jeans. You've got a good seven inches on me in height and all seven of them are in the leg region.

really cute cape - and what a bargain! well done for making the best of a less than ideal situation (I mean the weather, not the place!)

This is a great look. That one picture of you in front of all of the trees looks like it's straight from a magazine. I've always found that the less fashion forward towns end up having much better thrift options too.

I missed the gorgeous weather too--it was cold this weekend in Austin, of all places!! If only I had an adorable cape with me...

Thanks for the shout out. :)

That cape is fantastic. Love how you put the look together.

that cape is too cool! it makes me want a cape, but i think i'm too dorky to pull it off and would look more like i should be leading a band of uniformed children around the streets than walking a catwalk. entirely unrelated: your interview made me laugh aloud.

Oh, man! I wish I had a cape like this one, but I'm not sure I could rock it the way you are!

I love Joe! We only have a couple different ones in Newfoundland, but there's always some good stuff left when it all goes on sale. The cape looks great!

Thrifting is always the best in places where fashion isn't a local priority. I'm not surprised you scored big. That cape is just amazing!

I'd have to agree about Winter-pig...sorry, locals! :-P

I adore that cape - too cute. And those boots?? Awesome.

Hello, Sherlock cape! Are the mate to my MY Sherlock cape? You're a more serious version, methinks, but that's okay, mine can learn from yours...

In other news, I also enjoy going to not-so-fashionable places....it's easier to shine! Everyone looks at you! And like you said, the thrifting can be golden. Thrift stores in the middle of rural-ass Virginia are the best, since no one ever picks them over. The ones in Richmond are like dogfights, with the hipsters tearing at each other to get the best garments.

Glad you had a fun time!

I want a cape! You so made it work.

Especially for craptastic weather days like the one we're having today. Maybe I'll bust out my sweater cape today...

That cape is amazing and I am endlessly jealous of your ability to look cool in hats! I went to Winnipeg once when I was 19... I don't remember why? Road trip?

Sorry you missed all the lovely weather! Atlanta has been extremely capricious (70s on Saturday, snowing Monday- harumph).

When I visit Calgary I am alarmed at the lack of style compared to Vancouver so I couldn't imagine it being better in The Peg. You look great, I like the menswear inspiration here.

Thanks for stopping by ! Yep, back in the 80'd Pier One sold clothing , alot like World Mkt. - it was lovely dresses / skirts / sarongs / accessories , etc. They were made in different countries, but were labeled Pier One. I suppose that makes em vintage ?! I Love this cape and what a deal !
