Bored of the Kitchen Door on the Third Day of the Wardrobe Challenge

outfit3.2

Am I really that stupid? I graduated from Fashion Design, I even have fancy Latin words behind my degree and yet I made the dumbest mistake ever... Hide them but DO NOT cut any threads hanging off your tights! Above is the result of that stupidity... By the time the thread was cut and the hole extended to be over an inch, I was emotionally invested in these tights and I wore them anyways. The flash of the camera seems to lessen the visual impact of the run in my tights, so I spent my day doing my thing, while flashing my camera and moving like lightning, so people couldn't see the proof of my error. The worst part is I really, really liked these tights and I don't know if I can replace them because I found them in some 99 cent bin. Boo urns...

I thought these tights gave my outfit a funkier edge. So, while I wore this dress on Monday (scroll down, way too lazy to link... you can also see my choices for the Wardobe Capsule Challenge two posts ago) in a more classic way, I decided to go for a mod look today and I temporarily hiked up the hem a couple inches. Ah, the magic that 10 minutes and a needle and thread can make... I remember buying this dress at a sale that the University had from their fashion archives about 5 years ago. Back then I thought it was pretty short; it seems I've gotten more scandalous in my old age.
I spent a few seconds feeling guilty over my scarf because I get some extra options for the capsule wardrobe as I live in the great North but I got over it pretty fast. Yesterday I showed some ankle and I froze (though I put on my brave face) and then I see Adored Austin's post and she is showing shoulder. Shoulder!?! Yup, I deserve my gloves and scarf!

Dude, I live I Virginia and I wore gloves today too, but don't tell. I didn't photograph them. I have some nights very nearly like those and they also have a hole but I can't bring myself to toss them yet. WHY?! I'm a hoarder, obviously.

I love this outfit. The rust colored scarf is gorgeous on you. PS: My Dutch husband thinks you're super pretty :)

hey, I just found your blog and I absolutely love it (I've even laughed out loud a number of times and startled the sleeping cat on my lap....I gather you do this too?) You have a great sense of style and fashion and I'll definitely be following you from now on (I may be biased as you're a fellow Canadian, but this is a pretty great blog!)

I wore a pair of my staple black "luxury' opaque tights via the tar-jet one night out in Chitown with my sissy, and I had fully acknowledged the slight run in them before I fled my apartment. However, since they are the 'luxury' brand, they hadn't spread to hooker-like length and width. However, when I arrived in the windy city, the darling blood of our parents noticed that it had in fact spread down my thigh, and widened to a QUITE noticeable degree. However, since we were going to a darker bar where there was swing dancing to be conquered, I said 'screw it!' and wore them anyways. Not a single soul dared comment. (probably because I was also wearing my ninja turtle belt and multiple heavy metal necklaces.) Also, the manfriend says I have a 'chewing gum walk'.. meaning it's very Wrigley, so I doubt anybody noticed.

you're welcome for the novel. now knock it off.

Too bad about the tights, it is gorgeous. Hope you find another pair with a similar pattern.

I love your day3 outfit... simple yet so chic. xoxo

I found your blog via 'what would a nerd wear', and just love it - esp. the outfit posts. When you have a minute, stop by my blog for a visit: ellenitza. I think you'll like it.

*De-lurking* This outfit is fantastic! I have a very similar black dress that I *never wear, and you've given me a couple of ideas on what to do with it!

Also, I *heart your blog - I'm originally from St. Catharines and thus I've spent quite a bit of time in the Hammer/Ancaster. At the moment, I'm living abroad in England, and reading your blog is like a little slice of home (the landscape of your photos, the Dutch stuff, the cruising Winners for bargains - my mom and I used to do that A LOT - the TO references ...). Thanks for helping this homesick, expat fashion blogger feel a little less like she's living on the other side of the ocean! x

The tights do make the outfit and that's one sad thing about shopping thrift. You get unique items but it's uber hard to replace them. =P

This is tragic... Looks like it's pretty high on your leg though. You can totally get away with it. Besides, aren't all of the hipster kids wearing ripped tights? You're just ahead of the style curve or you're bringing the Courtney Love from Hole in the 90s look back. Something like that.

Very cute! I love the tights... that sux that they have a hole :(

I really like the scarf. I think I am going to hunt up one of my own on Ebay.

Oh no! I can't stand a hole in tights, but can't stand it even more when it's an awesome pair of tights like those! I'd still wear 'em anyway, though, too! They're awesome with that outfit. You're right - they add an edge and pizazz to a simple black dress (that fits you impeccably). Love this look!

These tights totally make the look! So sorry about the hole!

um, these photos are really adorable. you can't tell at all that the tights have a hole from afar.
plus, i love that you said "boo urns." thank god for the simpsons.

I love the shine on the tights. You can't see the hole (barely) in the far away pictures, in fact if you hadn't of mentioned it I wouldn't of noticed at all.

I want you scraf!!!! i have been looking for one similar to it.

Sometimes you just can't resist the temptation to snip those loose threads ... we've all been there. You look radiant despite the hole, and I'm coveting that gorgeous scarf.

Sheila said...

Aw, I hate when that happens to tights (heh, "boo urns")! Did you put a glob of clear nail polish on them to stop them from running further? You might be able to stitch them up from the inside with a light grey thread.

Great outfit - love the boots and scarf!

So I saw the comment above mine that referenced the clear nail polish... and that just reminds me of back in the day when we used to do that... but it was mainly just for our tan "pantyhose" or "nylons"... when we got crazy, we even wore white ones.... haha the good ol' days! But not really... anyways, I digress. You look awesome in this! The tights and scarf give it that extra sumthin' sumthin' :)

myedit said...

Yup- I put lots of nail polish around the hole and it helped.
The hole isn't too visible with flash but in real life it's pretty obvious. And yes, I suppose I could still wear the tights with longer hems...but that's not as fun!

Holy crap I love those tights. Love love love them, run and all!

I love it! Where is that scarf from? So pretty!

Ugh! Someone needs to invent a tight repair kit for when things like this happen. They'd become a zillionaire! ;)

Love this outfit...ripped tights and all.

Could you chop them off and make them into knee-highs or wear them with suspenders or make legwarmers or armwarmers or fingerless gloves? Love the gorgeous colours in the scarf.

Eyeliah said...

oh its sad, they are so cool! will still work with longer skirts atleast.

melissa rose said...

haha they look fab anyways!

i really appreciate the way you showed us the pieces and are showing us how you wore them each day... it adds a nice touch

That sucks about the tights! Hopefully you'll be able to replace them with something you at least like as much. I do love the outfit though!
