Making it Work

corn1corn7corn3corn8corn5corn6

Skirt? Winners Sweater? Thrifted Tights? Zara Boots? Ash, Winners Clutch? Thrifted

The idea of a chunky knit paired with a floaty chiffon is very interesting in theory. But it's a combination that is frustrating in practice. If I leave the sweater untucked I lose my waist completely (that sounds pretty dramatic, it's really not...) and if I tuck in the sweater... Well, that's impossible, I can't tuck a sweater into a chiffon skirt. Does not work. So I got smart and I safety pinned the waist band of the sweater to the waist band of the skirt and created a faux tuck. My hair is not naturally this blonde, my teeth are not really this white and my sweater is not actually tucked in. All my secrets are exposed...

To all my American friends... Happy Thanksgiving! To all my Canadian friends... have fun at work?

LOL I did this exact same thing yesterday in Aritzia,
heirloom pants and a baggy sweater, looked like a fool! so I tucked the middle of my sweater into the high waisted pants lol ... much better.

LOVE this look, every single thing about it.

and yes J, I'll enjoy work ...

I love the color of the skirt with the sweater.

Did you finish organizing the jewels last night?

It sounds like we had the same idea today...chiffon and chunky knits!
I keep having that same waist dilema with my knits as well, so I keep belting them...but I'd really like to lose the belt in some instances...maybe I'll have to try your trick!

awesome outfit combination. Just my kind of style!

So now we know all your tricks. But I still would not be able to execute the chunky sweater/floaty skirt combo as well as you can. Take refuge in that. I love the color combination with this outfit. Well played.

Brilliant idea--the faux tuck! haha! I love the mix of a big chunky sweater and a chiffon skirt. Must. Recreate. I'm wearing an accordian skirt with a pajama sweatshirt that I've worn all weekend long (and to work at the Chicago office on Monday) and today again at my client's office in GR. Anyways, before I tell you even more how disgusting I am, I want to tell you, you look amazing! I like that you paired the black booties to such a feminine skirt and thanks for the happy thanksgiving!

Now THAT is clever. Kudos to you..you've cracked the chiffon/chunky code.

Chiffon & pleats - you just can't go wrong with that. You just can't!
And thank you for sharing your secrets! ;)

I am super jealous of your pleated chiffon skirt! I take issue with chunky sweaters...every time I wear them, I feel like *I* am the one who is chunky, not the sweater. Even so, every Fall I get really excited thinking about them. And then I try them on. They are indeed better in theory.

it works .... and makes me want to nip out to bag a pleated chiffon skirt (which would so not work in any way that i can see with my hips - hmmm, maybe i can make it work)

A "faux tuck" - it sounds kinda dirty, doesn't it? I like it!

Oh wow. I love that you got around your chunky/flowy problem by pinning the sweater under. It looks really fabulous.

The contrast is so appealing. I have a similar skirt in black, and I'm definitely going to try a combo like this. It would be a perfect work outfit. Thanks for the inspiration!

Love this combo! I almost bought this skirt at Winners... but sadly, I'm 4'11" and where you are still all legs in the skirt, I was kind of all cankle. Very flattering. :)

Holy crap that is brilliant! I would never have thought to do a "faux tuck" but I'm definitely going to try it next time I'm wearing a flimsy skirt like this :)

Beautiful!

You're such a smart cookie! In this situation I've always worn a blazer to rediscover my shape, but pinning...even better. I'm willing to bet this idea will be popping up elsewhere in the blogosphere. Anyways, I love the contrasting textures and colours of your outfit, and you picked a great setting for photos.

Once, I had a love affair with the colour of that sweater. We ended things, but I still remember it very fondly. I might even try to see if the spark is still there!

I love the combo between the chunky knit and the floaty floaty chiffon. Fab!

Ok, absolutely seriously, I had this sweater in high school in the early 90's. How did it make it's way from the Northwest Territories to Ontario? Oh and I actually wore it two ways.

One: the obvious way, over black leggings. But my legs were awesome as was my super tight gymnastics butt, and the sweater wasn't quite long enough to cover all my business so I was accused of being a slut.

I then resorted to tucking it in to the jeans that I had stolen from a guy who wanted to be my boyfriend. Levi's 501's button fly, which I then took and tapered the heck out of, until they hugged my legs also and I was still called a slut.

Ah well, you win some, you loose some and I still have fond memories of that sweater. You, my darling, bear no resemblance to a slut in this sweater and have redeemed it nicely.
