Burn

gold5gold3gold1gold6gold4

Skirt? h&m (old) Shirt? Gap Shoes? Cole Haan, consignment Necklace? Flea market

What you can't see in these pictures are the odd sun burn patches on my body. I'm ashamed of them because if you have ever had the pleasure (or punishment) of working with me, you will know that I am the sunscreen dictator. Working outside does give me a tan in the summer months but I am always yapping to everyone about wearing hats and sunscreen. In fact, any of my co-workers have probably heard the 'this is the only skin you were given, take care of it' speech as often as you have heard Rolling in the Deep. The radio in my truck got stolen months ago and I still hear that song too much... it was good the first 437 times though.

We took advantage of the fact that we actually had free time this Saturday and went to the beach, where I made the classic mistake of missing little sections of my body with the sunscreen... Hence the patchy burn. That was the bad part though. The good part was relaxing on the beach and ignoring the 'to do' list and reading a trashy novel instead. Reading weak literature on the beach makes you smarter... try it.

  2. @Anna Jane
Yup, can't see the burn... the burn patches are two triangles on my butt and a line right along the top and bottom of my bandeau bikini top.

  4. I don't think I've ever actually felt discouraged from getting dressed after looking at a style blog until now. Seriously how I am supposed to be happy with anything in my closet now that I there are white tee's with sequin sleeves and cute little flouncy skirts out there yet so not in my possession? At least I have non patchy burned skin to look forward to waking up to....?!!?!?

  6. Lovely blouse! You always make me want to go out and find a sequin top. Or maybe I should just dig up my old show choir dresses. . .

  7. You look wonderful in that fun skirt! I hate it when I get sunburned, I am mad at myself for days. I heart aloe vera.

  9. Dang girlie! I'm sorry about the sunburn. Those stink! I love the sleeves on this top! Also, my boss has listened to Rolling in the Deep approximately 428 times, so I might have barely beat you on that strike. ;-)

  12. I love the skirt, and I love the shirt even more. And I totally understandy our sunscreen dictatorship, I'm like that too. Whenever I do get burnt, I am so embarrassed, because it is prevented so easily.... I always say I refuse to die of skin cancer and then put on some more sunscreen...

  14. Skirt is adorable! Not sold on the sequin top though, but you wear it very well. But who are we kidding, you would wear a paper bag and still look fabulous!

  15. I would totally trade with you -- the outfit is worth the sunburn. But yes, sunscreen is sooo important! Growing up in Florida, that was a lesson that I learned at a young age.

  16. "reading weak literature on the beach makes you smarter" - LOVE IT! I am totally stealing that the next time I am mocked for reading chick lit at the beach. :)

  17. This top looks great on you! I saw it a gap and contemplated buying it but I wasn't sure if I could pull off the sequin sleeves.

    You did it wonderfully though!

  18. I, too, had a horrible burn on my chest after spending all day at a golf outing in a strapless dress and leaving clear fingerprints all over myself. Ugh! The worst...

  22. I am so addicted to that song! I don't listen to the radio so I've been saved from saturation luckily.

Love the sleeves on that shirt.

  25. i SO feel you, my fellow fair-skinned friend. ive walked around with enough burnt tops of my earlobes, scalp, behind my knees and that patch of skin right where my arm and back meet to have learned my lesson. but it still happens! :/

hope you have an aloe plant :)

  26. Stupid patchy burns. It sounds like it was worth it though. And when you say trashy novel, what do you mean? Like Danielle Steel trashy or Candace Bushnell trashy? I guess some people wouldn't see a difference in the two... hmm.

Also, I want that necklace. WANT. I will now use my jedi mind trick to get you to come to Pittsburgh and give it to me. *waves hand*

  27. oooohhhh Cole Haan footwear...it's a new weakness of mine. Sorry to hear about the sunburn, but at least it's not visible. Like the tan lines I would have from my socks when I was little. So embarassing...
