I would like to draw your attention for a moment to the freshly painted white wall. Matt spent a few Saturdays ago painting the exterior of our house and he patiently painted around each brick and then used the roller on the brick itself. He worked for 6 hours and painted 1.5 of the 4 walls that needed to be done. The next weekend he rented an airless sprayer and finished the rest of the walls in less than 2 hours. What up Tom Sawyer?

In other news, I wore these shorts this weekend. I've read many eloquent blog posts bidding farewell to summer, shorts and breezy dresses but it turns out summer had not bid farewell to us yet. And because I'm not one of those organized people who has Sept. 21 circled on the calendar and carefully packs away all summer wear in labelled Tupperware containers on that day, I was able to just root through the pile of clothes on my chair (or was it the pile on the ironing board or the bed?), grab my shorts and I was ready to go. Once again*, being disorganized paid off...

*I only say 'once again' to make myself feel better... because all I secretly want for my birthday are those Tupperware containers... and a pen for circling dates.

  1. As usual you are effortlessly chic...which I suspected, and you confirmed with your "rooting around" story.
To be able to dig around and come up with something so fab....

  2. Haha! Matt totally pulled a Tom Sawyer!

I have to admit that even though autumn is my favoritist season I'm a little jealous that you've had warm enough weather to don such a summery outfit.

  5. ha! i am one of those obnoxious people who packs everything away, although being a california girl means that i leave lots of summer things in the closet year round because i'm in denial that i live in a state with snow.
i love the denim shirt with the shorts. summer, please come back to me!

  10. New reader here. I was ecstatic to see that you were wearing men's shoes! A couple of weeks ago, I tried on a pair of men's Italian loafers...then talked myself out of them, although they fit great and looked good.

  11. This is great - to me it's 'typical Yen'. Awesome.

  12. This is so classic, but still fun and edgy. I can't believe the shoes are men's! Nicely done.

  14. Great look. I particularly love your belt. And it's so refreshing to know that other people "organise" their clothes the same way as me.

  15. I haven't even THOUGHT about packing away the shorts and dresses! This may be just due to laziness but no one needs to know that. Sadly shorts don't take much place so putting them away does not give me more space for my winter stuff. I'm glad I can pull out my longjohns though.
I may not have tupperware but I keep plastic bedding bags (the big ones with the zippers) to throw stuff in and then under the bed. works like a charm.

  17. Whoa, go him! :)

You look very chic, and I like your shorts.

And I'm pretty disorganized myself, as my clothes are piled in front of my washer and dryer, and have been for the last month. :/

  18. I love the scarf with the shorts, they go together so well! *In my best Rachel Zoe voice "I die!" *

  19. I love the scarf and shorts -- you look so cool.

Umm, I wish I was one of those people with Tupperware containers for packing away clothing. My head wants to be a super-organized pack rat, but my body just lets everything clutter around the house.

I got so excited to see you featured on What I Wore, in that gorgeous vintage dress, no less! :)

  23. Hehe, I never bid farewell to summer until I'm completely certain it's gone. I know SO many bloggers all started celebrating Fall on Labor Day. Silly bloggers -- Summer likes to linger around and surprise us all through September.
And I don't even want to think about that rubbermaid full of sweaters for several more weeks.

Love your Fall-Summer look, the fur purse is great!

  35. i love shorts and i'm a little jealous of your shorts collection. well, i'm not exactly sure if it's a collection or not, but I've noticed enough of them that I really really like. The pleated ones are probably my favourite. And with brogues too! Perfect.

Also, that's splendid that summer is making an extended appearance for you... would you mind sending some of it my way when you're done?
