Pretty Things- A Giveaway

Peonies are one of my favourite plants. They have such consistent blooms and they are so darn pretty and huge and if you don't like them, you must be a scrooge. That's why I thought it was fitting when Miriam from Spellbound offered to do a giveaway on this blog, out of all the beautiful designs she makes, she chose the Secret Garden headband. Aren't you lucky? You have a chance to win this (Click here for more detail pictures of the ribbon wrapped headband with two lovely peonies)...

spellbound detail

As usual, the rules are pretty simple
1. You have to be a person (one entry per person).
2. Leave a comment and say how you would wear the Secret Garden headband.
3. Be creative. Would you wear it to a wedding to upstage the bride (you minx...) or wear it with your best friends; your pajamas, the couch and wine, watching Bridget Jones?...

I would wear the headband like so... Mixing the pretty from the headband with the more utilitarian vibe of the dress... and of course add a pop of pattern.

spellbound

(Ok, so it appears I have lots of time on my hands to sketch... not true. I was doing that thing called procrastinating. I have some online safety courses that I HAVE to do but watching So You Think You Can Dance and sketching was a more appealing option. The thing with procrastinating is that it doesn't change the eventual outcome, I still have to do those courses. So, I should stop blogging now and let you enter away while I learn all about turning vehicles off while gassing up...)

Thank-you Miriam for hosting this giveaway!!!

No, you do not need to sketch your entry..
A winner will be drawn on Wednesday June 23, 2010.

I would wear it when competing in the ring with my dairy goats; a girls got to look pretty at all times, right? But come to think of it, my goat might need a headband too. :P

Why, hello there gorgeous!

I would find a way to wear the headband over the hard hat I have to wear later this summer for a big, exciting, once-in-a-lifetime groundbreaking ceremony I get to go to. Anything to make my bosses shake their heads and go, "Oh, that Katie..."

And if that doesn't work, I'd wear it with a high-waisted skirt, lace collar, and my Doc Martins out on a date with The Rocket Scientist. All the things he hates in one outfit - so much fun to torture him!

I would wear it to class and pretend to be Elle Woods for a day !

SO CUTE! I would balance out the fabulous femininity of the headband with boyfriend jeans and a black blazer. Love, love, love it!

Breezer said...

I love the headband! And I love your sketch too.

I'd go super simple, like with a sleek black dress or for a more casual look, great jeans and a fitted top.

Christy said...

That's so cute!

I would wear it with my newest pair of shoes! They are beautiful 5 inch magenta peep toes. I should probably wear something else. Maybe a pair of pants and shirt or something.

Rhonda said...

I would definitely wear it doing my chores and taking care of my kids. I always like to wear one fabulous thing with my slobber-covered jeans and tee.

Lovers, Saints & Sailors said...

What perfect timing! I'm just finishing up my week in floral challenge.
I would wear it snuggled down amongst my crazy-ass, mind-of-it's-own hair and traipse around the office loudly declaring, "yes, in fact I do own that much floral!"

Jennifer Wang said...

What a lovely headband! I would wear it with a long white button-down shirt and pretty pink lipstick while marching up down down the beaches of San Diego, armed with my camera.

Christina said...

Awww how pretty! I'm a girly girl all the way through so I'd wear this inspired by GG's Blair by wearing a bright summer dress and topping my head off with this lovely headband!

I would wear it as the only pop of color in an all-white summer outfit. White sundress, white sandals, white cardigan, white clutch. But maybe matching peony-colored toenail polish?

I'd want the headband to the star of the show! :)

This headband is so cute and overwhlemingly huge! I would wear it on a date with my love (who would surely hate it), on a vacation with my family, and on the first day of school next year to force my students into paying attention.

Shannon said...

I think those flowers may be as large as my head, but oh so pretty!

I would wear the headband to my beautiful wedding in the Dominican!

Linda said...

First of all, I'm a person so I can enter. I would wear it...completely naked. Yep...with my hair down in a sort of "Birth of venus" kind of way. I would wear it with my brown patterned heeled chinese laundry shoes and strut away...neikked with my headband on.
I wouldn't take a picture of it, I promise.

Secondhand Stella said...

Oooo, I love your sketch!!!!

I would wear it out to dinner and drinks with the girls. Maybe with a pink top and a black and white striped skirt I have been dying to wear.

Happy Friday!!!!

Raquelita said...

Oh, my! I would wear it, of course, with just about anything, but my immediate plans are to wear it with a yellow dress and gladiator sandals while taking a gondola ride in Venice on my honeymoon.

I can hear it now:
"Uh, Mom...what is that thing on your head?"
To which I reply,
"Fashion before function my dears!"
They love me.

EEK! This is the perfect flower/head decoration for my WEDDING! I'm wearing a short white dress with a pretty ridiculously voluminous crinoline (channeling a classy Candy Land, Princess Lolly look), and this giant flower would be the pink icing to my cupcake!

Sidewalk Chic said...

Yay, how awesome! I like your sketch of your outfit and would love to see that dress soon.

I'd probably wear this with a simple solid-colored dress so that the headband could stand out a bit. What a lovely piece!

Nicki said...

That's so cute =).
Hmmm... If I were to wear it, I'd probably wear it with this great eyelet white skirt I've been eying at Gap... with a pair of wedges and my seafoam green deep v tshirt!

LAPT said...

I love this! I would wear it with a dark purple silk dress w/ multi-colored polka dots I scored for cheap last summer at Anthro... what a fun outfit for a fun summer night out!

Unknown said...

So pretty! I would wear it with a black shirtdress and purple pumps. On a Monday. To work.

Louise (Fifth Sparrow) said...

This is completely gorgeous (I have a bias towards peonies though!)

I think I would mix it with something a bit more relaxed and edgy to contrast the uber girliness of it; an army jacket, with a simple dress underneath and some booties. But really, it would look good with anything!

Anonymous said...

Your sketch is awesome though!

I would wear this with a fairly simple black dress to really make the flowers stand out. And then maybe add a pink ribbon sash to my dress to tie it all in. Pretty!

Destrehan's Daughter said...

This is really pretty. I love flowers, so I would have to wear this headband with some dark linen shorts, a white button up shirt, and no shoes while sitting in my hammock enjoying my garden and reading. It would be the star of my outfit and it would blend right it with everything that's blooming in the yard right now.

C said...

Awesome blossom (literally!).

I'd wear it with skinny jeans and a classic white button-up with tan brogues. Simple, but kinda classic I think.

p.s. I'm a person!

liz said...

I was just wishing for some big flowers for my hair this summer! I would go out and buy the most fabulous summer little white dress and wear big heels and walk through a park picking wildflowers and making everybody jealous. Then I would go have a two-scoop icecream :)

Jennifer said...

This headband is just too much for words. I would wear it with my new floral overalls that I recently thrifted.

I love that headband. I got my hair cut recently and have been looking for awesome headbands to show it off!

The great thing about this headband is that it would go with so much. I would pair it with my leather bomber jacket to balance it.

K said...

I can see my wearing this with my white summer dress and my sky high brown Steve Madden wedges which also have some lovely flowers on them. Maybe to walk through our Saturday market with a cute boy on my arm. yes...that sounds like a good way to wear this beauty. :)

Miriam Rieder said...

I LOVE the sketch you did!! You are one talented girl. Thank you for featuring me.

Hannah said...

Oh wow! So fun :)

I would wear this with a (new!) flowy short white dress and wedge sandals to wow my boyfriend, N, on our 4 year (dating) anniversary. I would just like to wow him and I know that those flowers would be really pretty in my hair :)

Thanks for the chance!

I absolutely love this piece.

My boyfriend is in the army and will be coming home for leave. He wants to take me to Boston for a day. I would wear it that day (with my white flowy skirt and pastel top) to amaze him. As everyone would watch me walk by, he could think to himself "That's MY girlfriend" and be so proud. It would be a special, extra amazing day for the both of us. =)

Thank you for holding this giveaway!!!

This look would be an homage to the East-Meets-West look with a slight military/utilitarian flavor.

Outfit: I would wear it with white over sized tee or tank cinched with an obi***, and olive green silk cargo pants.

Accessories: beige wedge sandals, up-cycled kimono bangle bracelets, dog tags.

*** Why an Obi? Obi's are a traditional part of geisha garb. Peonies (the flower featured in this headband) are native plant in Asia.

Ooh, lovely.

I might very well wear that while gardening. Protective coloration, you know? Like a gillie suit for nicely landscaped areas. :)

Oooh. I have a silk chiffon dress with giant orange and fuschia flowers on it and I would totally wear this with that dress, no shoes, and frolic through a field (I might frolic, you don't know). Since the matchiness would resemble a bridesmaid, I would throw on a pair of leopard-print shoes after the frolicking got old and see if I could negotiate for maid-of-honour at random weddings.

In the event that there is no field or wedding handy, I would restyle with my sleeveless black Blondie-iron-on t-shirt, cuffed jeans, an armful of noisy bangles and the tallest, baddest shoes I could find and I would wear it to see SATC2 with my besties (if we all lived in the same city). I would also bring a hip flask.

Obviously this headband will change my life.

Erin Carter said...

Such an amazing headband!
I think I would try to keep the rest of the outfit simple to keep the focus on the headband... I am thinking skinny jeans, blazer and white t-shirt perhaps?
I also think it would be a fun piece to wear to the beach... although I might be scared of ruining it!

The better question is what would I NOT wear this with?! I adore it! I would most certainly use it to spice up my skinny Paige's and military jacket for a school day, but would also like to wear it with the new floral summer dress to my uncle's retirement party at Disneyland. And then there's the pretty lace cardigan mom gave me at Christmas...

Laura said...

I love your sketch!!!!!

And I would wear the headband with my pretty lady-like white dress and lack blazer and some how acquire some super fab lady-like shoes and traipse about the city then I would pair it with a maxi dress (I would have to make it) and lazily walk around the park and take landscape pics...

Peonies are my favorite! I love that you paired it with a denim dress. I would also do something simple, maybe a plain white tank with distressed denim for summer lunch date with the girls, or with a white sundress for date night.

I'd wear this to our annual church picnic, with a sleeveless, classic white button down shirt and black skinny cropped pants and cork wedges. It would be reminiscent of a 50s housewife, but oh so chic.

Oh, it's just gorgeous! I love peonies - they are one of my favorites too.

I think I'd keep my outfit sweet. I'd wear my black and white, sleeveless, full-skirted gingham shirtdress. With black patent-toed ankle strap pumps and this headband, it'd be the perfect lady-like outfit!

I would wear it with this new drapey blazer I just bought, over a long tank and a pair of skinny trousers. And with fun shoes.
