New Shoes

Dress? Thrifted Clutch and bangles? Thrifted Shoes? Ash, Style Sense Bomber? Costa Blanca

As I explained in the last post, my feet are a little big. So, it is very rare that I actually buy shoes that are too big, usually I do the 'grin and bear it' until the leather of the shoe stretches perfectly to my feet. And by 'grin and bear it', I mean, complain and ask Matt to stop at a variety store for some Corn Nuts (sooo off topic but I just discovered Ranch Corn Nuts and my life is changed...).

But these shoes are a smidgen to big, especially the left one. Please tell me your feet are different sizes too, so we can hold hands and feel special together... I put insoles in the shoes but it wasn't enough and the left shoe kept flipping off leaving me to walk like a new kid. We were at a restaurant with a bunch of friends for my birthday and in order to stay mobile, I shoved some napkins into the toe... That's when I ruined the pedicure I just got an hour earlier. Seriously, being a lady is hard... high heels, pedicures and Corn nuts... it's a lot to handle at once.

  1. My left foot is bigger than my right. I once tried to make one perfect fitting pair of shoes at the store by putting in one six and one six.five (I know, I'm an awful person). I got caught at the check-out and felt horrible! I'm jealous of your StyleSense shoes. The gray booties you wore awhile ago have been haunting my shoe dreams....but alas, no nice stores like that in Kingston!

  2. i love those pink shoes with this dress! i have ginormous size 11 feet (i count myself in good company with the likes of you and Kendi) and my right one is slightly smaller. Have you tried FootPetals Heavenly Heelz in addition to an insole? You might need more than one, but they'll work like a charm, I swear.

  9. Ha! I've stuffed napkins into the toes of several pairs of shoes. When I find something I like, I WILL make it work. :)

And if I had a photograph where I looked as amazing you do in that first picture, I'd blow it up, frame it, and hang it over the mantel. And when company came over I'd subtly try to bring their attention to it.

  10. I'm totally with you. I ordered some cowboy boots - pointy toe. Well, the left one is fine. The right one is tight. :,( So, I too am a grinner and bearer. I contemplated sending them back, but I knew that the left would then be too big if I got a bigger size, and if I can just deal, the right will stretch, a few blisters and foot cramps later. Sucks. PS - you look STUNNING in that dress! I need to get on the ball about finding more thrift shops near me. So inspirational!

  11. I buy lambswool, what dancers put in their shoes. I shove it in the toes of shoes with a bit too much room (or when I wear shoes with stockings and my feet might slip around a bit).

Go buy some, it will change your life.

  15. My right foot is my bigger foot, more importantly though those shoes are so cute they are worth having to work around. Fantastic find!

  16. Your first photo is art! Gorgeous outfit. I don't know anyone whose feet are the exact same size. That's why I love leather!

  17. Sex-ay lad-ay.

    This is some classy shizz.

Oh, and my feet are two different sizes too, so I feel your pain (well, I only feel it on one foot, since the other foot fits in my shoes just fine).

  18. I concur... you may need to use more than one insole or a thicker insole and some heel grips in the back. This usually works wonders for me.

  19. Not only are my feet also ginormous (I average around a 9.5), but they are also different sizes. The left is about a quarter-size to a half-size smaller than the right. Makes shoe-buying quite difficult!

And I share your all-the-cute-shoes-at-the-thrift-store-are-size-seven woes. It breaks my heart every time.

  20. My feet are definitely two different sizes, the right is slightly larger than the left. This weekend I was trying on shoes and my right foot had tons of room and the left could barely scrunch in the shoe, I couldn't believe it. Alas, the shoes were two different sizes, the right was an 8 and the left was a 6.5, clearly the person trying on shoes before me had an even bigger problem.

  21. Nope, my feet have equal sizes, but I can understand the problem... I love the color of these shoes ^^ so beautiful! x

  22. I have a pair of shoes that do that. I was with you when I bought them, they are freakin georgus, but too big and I did the napkin thing and I did the insole thing and still...too big. Good thing HLC only charged me $30.00 for those puppies.

  23. My feet are small and narrow. I have issues with just about every shoes that does not have a strap wanting to fall off. You need some heel grips. They are sticky foam arch shapes that fit into the heel and stop your heel from popping out when you walk. They are genious. Try them and you will thank me. xo

  24. You look very glam in these photos - like a model on her way to a party.

I have big feet too - size 10, usually. My left foot, though, is a half-size to full size smaller. I once bought two pairs of sandals online for my wedding (in case one pair was the wrong size), and I ended up in one shoe from each pair. The other pair sits sad and neglected in my childhood bedroom's closet, waiting for a woman with a big left foot and a slightly less big left foot to come along...

  25. my left foot is a smidgen bigger than my right. it's annoying. however, my stars, you are one pretty lady. just sayin'. and it's a good think i think that because ranch corn nuts are one of my least favorite things on the planet. but really, your level of gorgeous can totally outweigh it.

  26. Great shoes. Love your look!

  27. Yep two different sizes :( I feel your pain, however size 7.5 or 8 (left foot is a half size smaller) and regularly find great shoes at the thrift store so I can't be to big of a baby about it!

  31. I'm half a size bigger on my left foot- when I used to do ballet it was so hard to get shoes, because they have to be fitted and one was always saggy; then pointe shoes! well, that didn't make anything easier!
I think I've grown a bit more the same now, I'm fairly sure it's only a quarter of a size difference now!

    ReplyDelete
  32. So with you on the Corn Nuts.

My feet are slightly different sizes, but not enough to cause major hassles. And for that, I'm grateful.

Hope you find a way to make those stellar pumps more walkable!

  38. That dress is killer, but yes... my feet are nearly a full, half-size apart. Not cool. I love summer and open-toed shoes. Left foot hangs on the edges and righty is happy. The rest of the year... well, they take turns getting blisters, righty wears an extra sock in boots...

  39. Yep! My left is bigger than my right. I had no idea until I actually went into a department store and the emp told me. Suddenly it all made sense! Love the Blog!

  41. My left foot is about a size bigger than my right. So I have decided to always buy a size up and get in-soles. I need to find someone whose right foot is the same size as my left and vice versa, and who likes the same shoes as me. It would be magical.

  42. I think everyone has a disproportional feet. My left foot is a smidge smaller than my right:) Just one of those things.

Sorry to hear those shoes are too big, seeing as they are super cute! I love the ruby red color.

  46. This is a relatively frequent topic of conversation on the Corporette boards. The Foot Petals come up and someone recently advised putting cotton (like you would in pointe shoes) in the toes of shoes that are a too big (check this past weekend's open thread). Hope this helps.

  47. This is a great look, the shoes, the dress, the jacket - love it!

  48. Ok, I am so jealous!! The dress, the shoes and the fact that you are 5"11 as am I and I wear a 11 to 11.5 :( I just grin and bear it. I have come to accept me shoe but it took over 25 years!

  49. I always stuff paper towels in the toes of my slightly-too-big heels. It usually works great (although I haven't done it when I've just had a pedicure ... that is very sad).

  59. My right foot is bigger than my left, almost by half a size. I too am a size 10. Although, lately I'm finding that I need an 11 in some places (like Aldo or Spring)... those jerks make me self conscious with their small sizing!
Love the whole look in this post!

    ReplyDelete
  60. My feet are just in that sweet spot between an 8.5 and a 9. By that I mean, 8.5s are too small and 9s are too big. So I buy the 9s and I've found that for heels, buying these little pads that go in the back of the shoe are my best bet. They keep my feet from popping out when I walk!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I have a theory about why you almost never find nice size 11s in a thrift store:

    1. There are fewer of us size 11 gals, therefore fewer of us donating.

    2. Women who have large feet go through so much to get their shoes that they won't get rid of their shoes just because the fashions change. I often replace the soles and pegs of my shoes multiple times.

  63. Not that this helps with the shoe fit, but it's a fun story...

I have a friend who wears size 11 shoes, and she goes through the same nightmares in shoe shopping. She does, however, have a huge and amazing shoe collection for one very funny reason--a couple years ago she happened upon the yard sale of a female impersonator who was getting out of showbiz, and she bought out his entire collection of glam shoes for a song. I now have the antique steamer trunk she also bought at that sale to haul home her loot.

  64. *Sigh* I have one foot that's slightly bigger than the other. Just when I was coming to terms with this, a Hungarian massage therapist told me one of my legs is also shorter than the other (2 cm I am told). I'm waiting to hear I'm also a hunchback. Long live napkins.

    ReplyDelete
  65. My right foot is wider than my left foot. Reason why it is the first feet that goes into a shoe I want to try. If it fits and does not hurt like hell, I can go ahead and buy the pump. And it seems that my feet grew in 5 years time. I was a size 7 five years ago and now I am an 8 and a half! How possible???
