She Thrifted

Meet Sarah from Wearing it on My Sleeves.
Sarah has, possibly, the nicest eyebrows I have ever seen. I realize that is a bit of an awkward statement to start a post with, a post about thrifting nonetheless, but it needs to be said because they are wonderful.
Alright, now that we have that out of the way, we can return to the business at hand. Sarah is an avid thrifter and I must commend Sarah for her ability to turn sad, sack dresses into something cute and fitted. Some scissors, some thread and an occasional bit of dye turn the thrift store giggles into something seriously awesome. And when she is not using the mannequin to display the dress in its original form, her 'before' pictures always make me chuckle...

I've been wearing different versions of this outfit many a time these last few weeks. It's always the same polka dot shirt but I mix up the rest. I switch up these pink pants for some red jeans, bust out my trench instead of this cocoon cape thing here and replace the wedges with these thrifted flats. And then I wear it over and over in different yet similar ways.

I am thinking of calling this method of getting dressed something snappy, like '1 Shirt, 6 Other Articles of Clothing and A Lot of Options To Get You Ready to Tackle the Day Ahead While Looking Put Together'... but it doesn't seem to roll off the tongue. So, I'll just call it what it is... I Like My Polka Dot Shirt A Lot.

Snapped: The Fitting Room

snapped-fittingroom

Sometimes I take pictures in the fitting room because it seems like the cool thing to do... And then I end up with a bunch of evidence of my shopping habits and I get to analyze what I left behind and what I bought. So really, fitting room pictures are less about vanity but more about research, right?

(Clockwise starting at top left...)

1. Two questions... How could I have left this crazy sweater behind? Also, who in Hamilton loves sequins and felines as much as I do and bought this sweater before I had a change of mind and came back to get it two days after this picture was taken? Whooooooooo??? (Did that last plaintive cry make it three questions?)
2. Bought the skirt for $16 but wisely decided to wait on that sweater because it was $70. I saw that sweater go all the way down to $20 but I never ended up buying it. Either I didn't love it as much as I thought I did or I found that cropped sweaters are an easy find at the thrift store...
3. Mustard flares from Joe Fresh. I dig these. Might need to go back for these. Soon. Because mustard flares are a wardrobe basic?
4. Red wool blazer from the thrift store... I promised my friend I would find her a red blazer and when I did, I sent off this picture to seek her stamp of approval. The blazer got the thumbs up and in exchange she has promised me a BBQ this weekend. I need to barter like that more often... I thrift, you cook. That way everyone is fed and clothed... and happy.

Dress of my Dreams

Dress? Vintage Scaasi, Antique Avenue (awesome store in Hamilton) Jacket? Club Monaco, thrifted (similar here) Shoes? Ralph Lauren, DSW (here) Belt? Thrifted Clutch? Hilary Radley (similar here)Bracelet? My Oma's

I want to wear this dress everyday. And that is saying a lot, because usually at the end of the day, I am finger snapping at my closet and yelling 'next'... But this dress just does it for me. If I didn't want to avoid hurting some feelings, I would call this dress my new favourite. ' Favourite' is a strong word though...

I love how the demure neckline and sleeves are a contrast to the loud print and the flirty hem. But mostly, I love a piece that I will be excited to wear for years, as I am with this dress. I mean, I get excited over trends but one day, I'm going to laugh at 2012 Jentine who was loving neon and busting out the leopard print skinnies but I am never going to laugh at 2012 Jentine for wearing a pretty pink silk dress. I would however, tell my past self to get my roots touched up and maybe get some more sleep to combat those undereye circles...
