Marilyn Monroe Moments

teal3

Skirt? Thrifted (similar here... kinda expensive) Boots? Ash, Winners (here) Tee? Joe Fresh
Jacket? Costa Blanca (similar, pleather here, leather here) Clutch? Thrifted
Necklaces? Rose from Winners, others thrifted

This is what happened. I wrote a post. I talked about how this skirt is actually more of a vibrant teal, how the silk of the skirt is so lightweight that even a slight breeze will subject me to a Marilyn Monroe moment and how the waist band is ridiculously wide and unattractive. I published the post, continued on my way and a few hours later I noticed that I had missed the 'i' in Marilyn. That's embarrassing.
I figured I could fix the little spelling error in bed on my phone but of course, there was a fat finger slip and before I knew it, I had deleted the entire post. I cursed my blog, thinking to myself that a diary would never let me down like this. Pens and paper always have my back. Technology is evil.
And now I have hobbled together a new post in the middle of the night because I am dedicated like that. This blog post is brought to you by dedication...

...and stupidity.

  4. I have a couple of wide belts that help correct this very problem. Or perhaps layer several skinny ones? Lovely skirt, that color is fab.

  7. What a fabulous skirt, Jentine! I love the rich colour. Actually, I would peg this as 1994, not 80s - the "broomstick" skirts were huge then, and I had a seafoam green silk one just like this (I worked at Suzy Shier back then). It would have been worn with a cotton tank and a crocheted tunic-style top. It all hid the waistband...so you see, there was a point to that thick waistband - it was never meant to be seen!

  11. @sheila- I totally remember broomstick skirts of the 90's. I wanted one so bad and my mom wasn't so keen on them. For some reason this skirt gave me an 80's vibe (tags?) but you might be right... Come to think of it, waistbands in the 90's were bad too...;)

  14. Well a good thing you saw past the waistband because this skirt is quite fabulous!!!

I've been trying to fight my camera on the grey days lately too but I haven't found a setting that works so far!

  16. I absolutely love this whole she-bang Jentine! The color of the skirt and its flowy-ness (I totally made this word up just now) are perfectly matched with the casual gray tee and leather jacket. Superb! And I love Monroe moments too. It was the weirdest thing though today, we had really strong winds and I was excited because I was wearing a breezy skirt. I wanted to get pictures of it perfectly blowing in the wind, but the second my self timer would go off, the wind would nearly die. Thanks a lot Mother Nature.

love the whole outfit, you just bring it to life. I would say that wide waistbands are not for you. As I person with an extremely long torso, I love wide waistbands. If you ever want to get rid of that skirt, I'll show off that waistband.

    Always love your blog!

  20. a true testament to the consequences of a spelling error, i say.
i also love this skirt on you--i have one of a similar length and am never quite sure what to do with it (tug it down so it's long? hike it up so it's in-between?) thank goodness for your sound advice-via-pictures.

  21. Gorgeous skirt, it looks great with the leather jacket! And I'm in love with those necklaces...they're all so pretty.

Marilyn moments are the worst. Especially when they happen at the top of the Empire State Building, which is packed with tourists and their tiny children. Not that this happened to me ever...
