Light Bright

inside6inside5inside4inside2inside1

Wool dress? Thrifted Shoes? Ash, Winners Necklaces? Banana Republic and The Last Hurrah Sequin clutch? Vintage, gift from my parents

It's tricky to take indoor pictures. I try to avoid it but if the outfit is exponentially better than the weather, I do what I can... Our downstairs does not have a lot of natural light but our upstairs has a lot of mess (for shame...), so I turn on the lights and open every curtain in the living room and welcome each light particle with love. Even then, it is still not enough light to get a decent picture. I found a construction light in the attic and I used that to augment. Then it was too bright and my shadow looked like a lurking monster across the mantle (even worse than the fourth picture) but I remedied that with a sheet of tracing paper across the bright bulb. As that construction light is serious business and burns hot, I hustled back and forth with the self timer and took some pictures really quick, only getting cat distracted twice. When the tracing paper started to smell like it was burning, it was time to quit. That's how Matt knows it's dinnertime as well; when it starts to smell like it is burning.
I'm kidding, it's dinnertime when Matt walks through the door with Subway.

  5. Okay so I thought that yesterday's retro-fab outfit was my favorite of yours in recent memory but this one is totally giving that one a run for its money. You're on a roll.

Also, you're hilarious. I think most hilarious people like to be reminded that they're funny from time to time... Which I hope you hear to mean, from time to time funny people like to be reminded that they're funny. NOT that you're only funny from time to time.

    Amen.

  6. First, Emma's comment is funny. Emma is funny too. Second, I thought this was going to be a nostalgic post about the Light Bright toy/game thing from back in the day and when I saw the photo of your adorable clutch, I was further reassured (the sparkle!). Then I read it and it wasn't about the Light Bright (which also made me think of Christmas - it must have been a present I received). But I liked the post anyway. Because like Emma said you're hilarious. And taking pictures indoors is also very tricky for me. Also, your hair look purdy in these photos. :)

  7. That is a beautiful dress that looks perfect on you. I know what you mean about indoor lighting, especially at this time of the year. It's like, hmmm, I want to show this outfit but the light is only barely decent at 11am for like 1/2 an hour. And then you're all dressed up for evening, and it's not even time for lunch yet!

  9. You just have the absolute best thrifted finds ever. I'd swear you were the thrifting version of Midas. That makes sense if you think about it in a slightly twisted way...

Anyhow, now that I've confused you I just want to say that I LOVE that gorgeous dress and I need to take lessons from your inside-photo tips.
Apparently, I need tracing paper and a huge light. Thanks :)

  24. Very cute outfit! Love those shoes! I do all of my photos indoors (and in my kitchen, haha) because I'm too chicken to haul my tripod outside with me!

  25. I'm terrible with photography. I've asked Santa for a tripod so I can take some pictures outside. We'll see how we do. Oh, and that dress is stunning!

  26. You look so good in blue! I especially loved the two necklaces you're wearing, they look like one piece! Your house is cute as shit and you have a lot of natural light so I think indoor photos work at your place!

  27. Could you try bouncing the construction light off a wall? The photos are great, you look super-sparkly and your mantelpiece is gorgeous!

  29. gorgeous! You can try bouncing the construction light off the ceiling or the nearest wall. That might help in getting rid of the harsh light and washed photos and shadows too!

  31. I can absolutely relate to your indoor photo dilemma! The sun is never out when I'm home from work making outdoor photos impossible. Yours really do look nice! And I absolutely LOVE your decorated mantel. It's festive and beautiful, just like your outfit!

  32. That dress is genius, and so is the way you've styled it! Been waiting to see how you'd wear this ever since you showed it as a thrift score back in the early fall. You must feel great in it!

  33. That is a great dress and you have styled it perfectly.

  34. I LOVE that necklace! And the dress - what a great find! I'm not normally a huge fan of gold but I love the way you paired it all together.

(And I agree, indoor photos are hard to get right!)

  35. that dress is amazing. love the color combo with the heels.

  36. I hate indoor photos too. Even worse though is trying to take photos around my aparment building, no interesting buildings or abandon bridges there. I try to venture downtown for most of my photos. I love the stripes paired with the diamonds, great mix of patterns!

  37. Wow, Jentine, awesome outfit! Love the layering of the necklaces.

I also wanted to comment on your wallpaper - um, yep, you heard right. I LOVE IT!!! It's so nice and abstract yet modern, yet floral, yet not - from a distance in the pics it looks like someone has loosely sketched on your wall. Nice! And a nice old school Hamiltonian Victorian fireplace to boot! Sweet!

That is all. Love your blog :)

  38. In my case, it is Chinese takeout. Or pizza. Or sushi. Or sandwiches from a local deli. I obviously do a lot of cooking in our household... Glad I'm not the only one who has issues taking photos inside my house. During the day it is filled with gorgeous natural light, but somehow that doesn't transfer when I take pictures. Oh well. You look so lovely. That necklace is spectacular. Did I miss it? Were you headed to some fabulous holiday party? You should have been if you weren't!

  39. Ah I feel your pain! you have a beautiful home! Do you take all of your pictures yourself? loving this outfit the geometric contrast of the shirt and skirt is quite lovely :)

  40. Ha! I was about to comment : "A+ combo with top and skirt." Until I scrolled back up to see the outfit listing. Love that somebody put that together into a dress.
A+ on buying it and looking hot in it. haha

  41. I honestly cannot remember if I already commented on this outfit. What I do know is I saw it Thursday and absolutely loved everything about it and now I'm looking at it again and it's equally amazing.. as is your hair.

I'm glad you've found your indoor place to take photos. Seriously, I feel as though we lose a few canuck style bloggers every winter due to a mix of insanely cold temperatures and dedication.
