Skirt? Donna Karan Collection, thrifted

Clutch? Thrifted

Blouse? I.D. by Marquis (?), Winners

Shoes? I.D. Browns

Earrings? Gift from my ladyfriend Linda

Sometimes I feel like I need to stop bragging about my thrift finds. But then I find something stellar and I just can't. shut. up. That's OK, you may brag about your delicious home made cupcakes and about JR's perfect spelling test and I shall brag about thrifting and Stella's (the cat) fetching skills.

I found this skirt in the 2 minutes I had to scan the rack at the thrift store. I saw that the colour was saturated and even, so I grabbed it to take a second look. That's when I saw that the skirt was wool with silk trim and had some crazy seam work. Having lost far too many hours in pattern making class at school, I knew that the exposed and silk lined darts and the perfectly curved seams were the work of someone who paid a lot more attention in class than I ever did. I tried to take some good pictures of the seaming because that is genius work. Turns out the skirt is Donna Karan... Donna Karan Collection. You can link through and check out comparable prices. Make sure you are sitting down and your beverage is resting... Don't want to cause any accidents. The best part is that the skirt fits perfectly. No big deal. I get my custom fit designer clothing from a thrift store.

(Ok, I realize there are some spacing issues, which, when I fix them just get worse. And I am running late... so sorry about that awkwardness.)

  10. Holy fuckbeans... a G for a skirt? I thought it was gorgeous BEFORE I actually saw 4 digits and a dollar sign. YOWSA. Good find and you are one HOT mama in it. (cat mama that is)
Holy crap. Also, I have to know if Matt brings you to the opera every second evening cuz where the heck are you wearing these amazing outfits? I mean if it's to walmart then AWESOME but I'm really curious because I swear I have all these amazing vintage items that I NEVER have a reason to wear them to. Matt thinks it's weird when I wear lipstick to go to the dog park (there was a party right after the dog park, ok!??)
He would flat out refuse to go out in public with me if I was dressed up for day to day stuff. I get it tho, u don't wear this stuff to work so you take advantage. I guess for me I wear a lot of my fancy(er) stuff to work so i wanna wear sweats every evening and weekend. ok now that I've told you my life story, I'm gonna go back to work. and daydream about that skirt and try to not have your great tush invade my dreams. It's your own fault, you stare at my cleavage, i stare and your bum. we're even.

I love the heart-pounding thrill of locating a treasure at the thrift-store, the look around to make sure no one's going to snatch it out of your hands because REALLY how do other people miss this stuff? Their loss, our gain!

  33. Beautiful skirt, regardless of origin. I love this fierce, fierce look - I absolutely do not have a pencil-skirt-and-blouse kind of life. I used to rock pencil skirts like mad back in ye olden high-school-teaching days . .

  43. Jentine, maybe you have a super rich secret admirer of your blog who lives in your town, buys crazy expensive fancy clothes perfectly made for your body, and then donates them to your thrift spots knowing you'll snatch them up. I'm just going with that being the most logical scenario b/c otherwise I don't know how to deal with your ridiculously amazing finds.

    ReplyDelete
  44. This outfit is so lovely! You wear it so well (-:

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh hey. Should we just call you "the body" now? All that sitting down driving a plow must really do a body good.

Ok, done hitting on you, for today.

  50. super jealous! (but simultaneously so excited for you... how is this possible? must be true love.)

and also, your commentary on the bragging cracked me up. i could just hear you and your justification. :) oh, and for the record: the effortless thrifting of designer goods is WAYYYYY more brag worthy than johnny's growth chart or whatever the heck it was.

  51. Hi Jentine

thanks for your comment. It's not an embarrassing question, Pinterest is a farily new site and I've only known about it for a couple months. It's pretty great actually (although another great way to waste tons of time on te web). It's a website that allows you to catalogue pictures that you see on the web - instead of saving them on your hardrvie and forgetting wherever they were from. You create boards and sort your pictures. I have one for stylei nspiration and have "pinned" a few of your looks in there as weel as other fashion bloggers I follow. You can use it for recipes, tutorials, etc...
