Apricot pants? h&m
Silk shirt? Thrifted
Necklace? Borrowed permanently from my Mama (with her permission!)
Shoes? Dumond
Trench? Mackage, Winners
Calfskin purse? Winners

The last time that magazines and trend reports were yelling 'colour blocking!'and 'spring brights!' at us, I was in the middle of my university years. I distinctly remember the mall being over-run with mannequins wearing bright blue tube tops under hot pink mesh tees. Does anyone else remember this particular style or was it just a Canadian Urban Behaviour kind-of thing? I tried to google this look so everyone could experience the awesomeness but like usual, I goggle weird things that always end up taking an awkward turn. Pro tip: Don't google black booties and mesh tops.

At the time, I managed to resist the tube top and mesh overlay but I still jumped on that colour trend train. I recall A LOT of pink, a pair of banana shoes (described here) and a tight neon yellow top that I loved to wear with my low-rise, stretchy Levi's. I think I like my 2011 version of colour blocking better... though this look might not bring all the boys to the yard like my yellow top and low rise jeans did...
That's OK. This look did bring the best boy of all to the school yard to take these photos. Winning.

  1. I was trying to describe those protective cases shaped like a banana (to protect your easily bruised fruit) to my coworkers yesterday and googled "banana case" so they could see a picture. Um, not such a good idea at work - especially if you happen to work in law enforcement.

Long tangent aside, your color-blocking here is very pretty and sophisticated. :)

  15. I love the two colors you've chosen to work with here, and the accessories are perfectly low key to balance it out, but still so distinctive...that giraffey print bag is delish!

  16. You have the best ankles in the bizness. And I'm not talking style blog bizness, I'm talking the ankle bizness. I would buy a colorblocked mesh ankle bracelet if I saw it modeled on you.

  22. Haha, I know exactly what your talking about. Although I could have sworn color blocking was in like 2 season ago. And then went out last year. And is now in again? I think? So confusing. But really, who cares?

Anyways, I LOVE the outfit. The colors go wonderfully together.

  31. HAHAHA! I do remember last time colour blocking was in! I also remember thinking :"What is wrong with people? Why is neon making a come back? (last time I remembered seing that much colour on one person was in third grade and my teacher wore all neon outfits!)Why can't I find a black shirt anywhre? ARGH" Or something like that.

I'll be sure to try it this spring and try not to turn like my third grade teacher. Your outfit is perfect!

Our photographer told us hewas submitting one of our pics to "Irish bride magazine" so my hubby looks up "irish bride" to see if he could find out if the picture was accepted and up comes.... Irish mail order brides....so funny. I am also laughing at the person who googled " banana cases"....so so funny.

  50. those are pretty much the exact pants i've been on the hunt for! i actually saw them at h&m, the other day, but didn't really think that the cut would be so flattering, and since the line for the fitting rooms is always a mile long, i didn't bother trying them on. BUT....after seeing your cuteness in them, i just might brave the fitting room line :). exemplary color blocking :).
